What add-on parts are installed on your bike or is it stock? From your description it sounds like your running pretty lean in the low RPM and low throttle position range. Well,... I installed a sert on mine and i'm still tweeking mine to get it just right, but I also had some low RPM surging with my bike as well. I realize that I could get a Dyno tune with my sert and get it dialed in perfect but I didnt really want to spend the extra $$$, and I've managed to get it pretty close. I understand your frustration, but I have a friend who just bought a new Yamaha Midnight Silverado and its a carb bike and my bike still runs smoother, before and after I installed my sert. I am very picky with my bike and I realize that my surging problem is just ever so slight and most people wouldnt even care about it, but in your case I would definately stay on the dealer until they do what it takes to make things right. Also might give the H-D corporate office a call as well. Might even try another dealer,...alot of times some dealers will just get close minded and not even try and help, and then the problem could be easily fixed by a dealer who gave a crap.

Good luck,
John

How many miles do you have on it? I feel for you pain. I have a 35th edition and at slow speeds it can jerks a litttle, especially when not completely warmed up, but I expect a little roughness. I have not had the problems you are experiencing though.

If I were you, I'd get on a different relationshio with your dealer or another dealer. I'd let them know of your concern but don't be too condemning. I'd write or call or in some way get ahold of Harley Davidson personally and let them know the situation. You should not be separated from the HD rep. Good luck, and remember, attitude is everything. Kep it civil no matter how frustrating it may seem.

You are dead right. There is a problem with your bike. They must fix it under warranty, by the sounds of it it's bordering on unsafe. The dealers excuse is not acceptable and he needs a good kicking.

I've had my bike for 6 months with a download, both injector types, and a PC 3 and I've never had the problem you describe.

Willie: It sounds like you got a bad case of "surging" or some other fuel or ignition issue. However, the 25 degree injectors should have solved that. You may have a short in a sparkplug or plug wire so I would try a new set of sparkplugs because they are cheap. FYI, my dyna surged a lot in the low end range until I did the stage 1 with a SERT and SE air cleaner and SEII pipes. That said, if your dealer is not a big help.......find a new dealer. My dealer is Liberty HD in Akron, Ohio and they are hell bent to make me happy all the time. You should get the same treatment. You are a customer. Just remember to be polite and not vent at the service guys...you get a lot more bee's with sugar than you do with salt...my $.02. KB

My problem is that I have about 17k in a motorcycle that I expect to run properly stock from the factory.
If a SERT is required to do that then I expect HD to install it and tune it for me at not charge.

I am not going to put anymore $ into it until HD says they cannot fix it and that they admit it
is a factory default. If they give up then I will try my own things or maybe take it to a Metric
Dealer to see if they can find the problem.

My opinion is this - why should I have to spend $500.00 to make my bike run like it should have
from the factory?

Excuse my RANT but I get tired of taking it up the butt !! Time for the dealer and HD to anti up on this one
in my opinion.

The stock map and all the '06 stage one maps are extremely lean in that portion of the map. On the SERT maps, it's clearly visable. The problem can be mild to wild depending on the bike. Sounds like a decent tune is in order.
Dealer cannot just call off a fix 'cuz they're too weak to find it. They either fix it (with a loaner while they do), or they give you a new one. The lemon law works for bikes too, and they MUST eat it if the problem remains. Keep on them.

A little over 4000 miles on it and right now it is running bone stock .
I have been working with them for a year on it now and so far I have been polite and very gracious to them.

I have to travel over 100 miles but I may go to another dealer.

Thanks for the reply

Willie -
Man, I feel your pain. My bike's ('06 Street Bob) been in the shop for three weeks now and they say it won't be until after August 8 that they get it ready. My bike was not surging but was stalling (sudden engine shutdown, no warning) at freeway speed and lower - really sucked when a semi was on my butt at 75 mph. They already installed new injectors and are waiting for a fuel pump (....I could have whittled a new one by now). KEEP on your dealers a$$ - you deserve a bike a that runs. When I started having my problems, I called the dealer I bought the bike from and the service dept. rep said it wasn't the bike but that I needed a PCIII and dyno tune! I ended up taking my bike to another dealer. My feeling is my bike should at least run 'well' before I start putting a bunch of aftermarket stuff on it. I probably will put the PCIII on it and get the dyna tune eventually. MAYBE next week I'll be riding again. Stay after them and Good luck Willie!!

RockDoc,

I could not agree with you more.
Why should we have to invest in a PCIII, SERT, Fuelpak or anything else just to get the
bike to run properly? These would be nice additions for better performance but the least
we should expect is a decent running ride from the getgo. Harley riders will take alot more grief
because we are a loyal following. If I had bought a car or truck that had these same issues I would
have traded it in long ago.
Mine has been at the Dealers for a month out of this summer and I can understand how you feel,
hopefuly you will get it back soon and the problem will be resolved. That is a dangerous situation.
I will be waiting for a call today from the dealer to tell me what the tech rep says. I am not optimistic
at all, but hopeful. I really wish I could meet him in person or explain the problem to him.
Because I cannot meet him I wonder if he will really be there.
I have included a detailed letter for the tech rep if he gets it. The guy that had all the information on the
problems is on vacation and will not be there. The fill in guy was too busy checking his lunch and the cash
drawer to listen to me, this was at 0800 hours.

Thanks for the reply !

Make them swap out the ECM. There is a definite problem with low RPM surging on some '06 Dynas. I've emailed SERT maps to about a hundred '06 Dyna owners. Most people really liked them, a few people didn't.... but two or three have emailed me with this surging problem hoping a decent map would fix it. No amount of SERT tweaking fixes it. Maps that worked great for me and for others have zero effect on this problem. The only thing that fixes it is a different ECM.
