Default On going problems with 06 Dyna


I need some help and advice !

I hope I can explain my problems properly.

Since the first week I got my Dyna it surges or misses between 1500 and 3000
RPMS. If I put it in first gear and take it up to 2k rpm and hold it there the bike jerks
back and forth like it is miss firing. You can do the same thing in 2nd and third too.
It is not subtile you can notice it very easily.

The dealer replaced the fuel pump and put the 25 deg injectors in it but no help.
So the dealer said not to run it at those rpm's ?? Problem is I ride to work and I
have to travel 15 miles in a 25 to 35 mph zones in traffic. It is stop and go so I
am at the 2k rpm range in 1st or 2nd much of that time.
The dealer has had the bike for three weeks this summer and it is back there now
because a HD Tech Rep is coming to test ride it . If he says it is OK then that is
the end of it, they will not work on it anymore. I am not allowed to talk to the tech
rep or see him. It is a secret when he will actually be at the dealers.

So I am now wishing I had gotten on 05 or earlier without the FI and these problems.

Has anyone noticed this same problem ? Or next time you are out could you take your bike
up to 2000 rpms in first gear and hold it there ie: not accelerating or slowing down just keeping
it steady and see if your bike is smooth or if it seems jerky ??

Any Comments greatly appreciated !!!!

I've had my '06 Dyna now for for 17 days. As of last Sunday morning I had 80 miles on it before I went riding with my father and brother. I now have 324 miles on it. I've been following the "break-in rules" and vary my speed and rpms and haven't had any kind of hesitation, shuddering, or jerking. I've also kept it at different rpm intervals for short durations to see how fast I was going at those rpms (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000) in different gears. I've had no problems with the bike in any areas whatsoever. The only modifications I've done were the "detachables" and some stick-on/bolt on accessories. The only mechanical modification that was made was having the dealer install forward controls. So far, all I've done mechanically is to put in premium gas before I ride. Sorry that I don't have anything earth shattering to report, but just wanted to give you my road test report in case that helps.

I'm thinking if you get the sert and have it dyno tuned, they should be able to get rid of the problem. My bike ran great from day one, and at 3,000 miles i put on a hypercharger and V&H pipes and did the sert it it runs even better than stock.

I know that's a terrible situation. Are there no lemon laws with bikes. Can you set up a lemon aid stand across from the dealership handing out info on the bad dealer's pracitices. The guys at my dealer are not impressive either. HD is coming out with a trim package specifically for bikes sold at that dealer, it's a bike decorated with all numbskull medallions.

Not had that problem on mine (06 Bob). I have v&h pipes and a remap.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. My 06 Bob is bone stock with 380 miles on it and runs great at all rpm's.

I have seen posts of yours, but do not recall if you have done stage 1, gone PCIII or not. So there is a great many things that could be going on. But I would do a very good check for intake/vacuum leaks. It has been a good while since I have been on my 06 WG but I do not recall any surges in power in any sustained RPM/load range. If after the rep looks at it and they still haven't fixed it, you should definately contact Harley corp.

The stock map and all the '06 stage one maps are extremely lean in that portion of the map. On the SERT maps, it's clearly visable. The problem can be mild to wild depending on the bike. Sounds like a decent tune is in order.

My problem is that I have about 17k in a motorcycle that I expect to run properly stock from the factory.
If a SERT is required to do that then I expect HD to install it and tune it for me at not charge.

I am not going to put anymore $ into it until HD says they cannot fix it and that they admit it
is a factory default. If they give up then I will try my own things or maybe take it to a Metric
Dealer to see if they can find the problem.

My opinion is this - why should I have to spend $500.00 to make my bike run like it should have
from the factory?

Excuse my RANT but I get tired of taking it up the butt !! Time for the dealer and HD to anti up on this one
