Default Jiffy Stand question

G'mornin' Gents and Ladies,

I have a '91 Dyna (Sturgis) and am having a little trouble-I noticed last Year that my Jiffy stand wasn't holding itself in the "up" position, so I went down and purchased a new Spring and installed it-thought it was the end of the problem.

It didn't fix it-now, my Bike has 6,000 original Miles and is in mint condition. I purchased a Parts and Service Manual, and the only thing different from every other Dyna that I can see is the part number for the Spring-it is only used on the '91 Model, and when I went in and purchased a new one, it subbed up to the new Spring, so I am wondering if the position of he Spring "perch" might be diferent on the '91's-I know this is an old Bike to some, but I love my Sturgis-

Anyway, I am going to the Dealer today and ordering a complete new Jiffy Stand (unless someone here knows something I don't about this issue). I tried to feel for any excess play in it, and cannot find any, however with the way that it is mounted (with a Pin) it seems tight. I do not know if there are any Service Bulletins regarding some type of change with the newer Spring.

The Service Manual does not say that it is difficult to change out the Jiffy Stand (as a matter of fact it really doesn't say much about the Jiffy Stand), however I read that someone says you have to pull the Primary-looking at the Parts Manual, it just looks like you can pull the pin and it will fall out-correct?

Please someone tell something that I'm missing here-

Check the places the spring attaches to. After 16 years my jiffy on the chopper has hogged out the holes making it flop out all the time. it never swings out but drags like a curb feeler on left turns. Vibration will wear out anything on a Harley. New mounts will probably cure it, since you give a damn. Good luck.

Cant really help you on your problem other than agree with DeJavu. A whole new stand unless it is for that particular model {you said the spring was exclusive} most likely won't help. If it is'nt too $$$ maybe try a sporty spring.
P.S love the FXB's Shovels and the Evo's. Yours is one great piece of eye candy.
Allworldauto.com lists recalls for H-D going back through the 70's.

Thanks for you replies-hadn't thought of a Sporty Spring, are they shorter/stiffer?

baldric, thank you for the compliment-not everyone likes the Sturgis, but it was the one HD that I had to have-

DeJavu, I will look closely at everything-the problem I see is that the mount for the spring on the bike is fixed-I would have to do some type of modification to change it, and then I'm not sure how well it would work-that will be my last resort as I'm trying not to modify the Bike other than a Thunderheader and a few chrome bolt-ons-
