I want to remove the HD sticker on the side of the gas tank.
I looked at some earlier post about this and I don't believe
anyone addressed the problem about there being clear coat
over the sticker. Can it still be removed without screwing
up the finish. If yes How?
I used fishing line and some wd40 to remove the glue on the reflectors, but for the tank I just peeled them off, had to go to the store for some goo-gone. It was a lot of rubbing but it looks fine, no scrathes. Just be careful when peeling off, I cut my finger on one of the tank badges.
I had the clear coated stickers on my 04 FXDI.
I sent the tank back to HD for re-painting. Cost like $250. (Vivid Black) Dealer took care of shipping.
Worth it I thought.
can't get the sticker off without messin up the clearcoat. clearcoat is a layer of clear paint, so there's now way around that. you'll either have to strip the tank off the bike and sand it off....then either paint the clear again or send it in somewhere. good luck dude.
I suppose another option would be tryin to find a tank badge that covered up the decal....if you could find one that worked. but I'd just have it done...especially if you don't have any experience with paintin stuff. If you decide to sand it yourself, be sure and make an investment of some wet sandpaper, 400 through 2000....and be careful!
