Default SE Tuner

Have ordered a stage 1 air cleaner, SE slip ons and a SE tuner. All will be fitted by the local HD dealer. My question is about the SE tuner. As I understand it, this is not permenantly fixed to the ECM, is this correct? Also what should I get back off the dealer when I get the bike back. eg CD, cables, etc. as I would like to be able to change settings myself if I make any further changes to the engine when out of warrenty.

Thanks

um, I have the SEST (SE Pro Super Tuner), it's just a box the size of a pack of cigarettes, which the dealer uses to link their computer to the bike to adjust it. Afterwards, I take the SEST home and it sits in a drawer. Other customers leave their SERT/SEST at the dealer. I did not get any cables, CD's etc, just the box. all the tuning is done by the dealer on a dyno.

Correct. The tuner does not stay with the bike. The VCI you will keep. It can only be used with your ecm. I would not leave it with anyone other than yourself. If it gets lost or damaged you cannot access your ecm. You can purchase the cables and software seperately. They do not come with the tuner. This will allow you to make changes on a personal computer at a later date. If you choose to do your own changes I would suggest buying the training dvd.

Yep thats all you get however you can buy the cables, and software and then you have the ability to hook up the black box and ride the bike record data and make changes etc, check codes, and see how your bike is running and temps and some senors etc. I am still working on figuring this all out lol.

I just got the software yesterday and picking up the cables tomorrow cost was $66 bucks they also offer a trainning DVD for like $30 bucks but since i am a man and don't follow instructions or so iam told i felt no need to buy that lol.

Just to mention that, although the SEST does OK, the TTS tuning kit is less money and does a much better tuning, monitoring, and data recording job along with being easier to use for the DIYer. Some dealers won't sell you TTS because its not a HD product but you will be much happier with the TTS kit, no chance to corrupt the ECU flash. Many independent pro shops, those that want to keep a good reputation, throw away the SEST that comes with some of the staged kits and substitutes the TTS. Customers are happier. You could probably get a good SEST deal by dumpster diving around one of these shops .

Just saying, it is your call but pro tuners are frustrated by the SEST limitations and lack of factory support, let alone the more sophisticated DYI crowd. The factory doesn't seem to understand how it works. The only thing the SEST has going for it is that you don't ride with a laptop to tune, you can purchase it at your local stealer, and you have HD marketing to back you up. If you are looking for the best value for your $$ stay away from the SEST.

X2 on the TTS... and it has good support as well. Mastertune used to make the SERT for HD.... they parted ways, and today's TTS has more functionality that the SERT or SEST.

If you pay for the SEST Pro, you should get the VCI, cable from the VCI to the bike, the software and USB cable might be extra.

I use it, the current software has a feature called smart tune. You put the VCI in Smart Tune record mode and ride. It can then use the data collected to update the VE tables.
