well it goes like this. There are two kinds of cables you can use. If your computer has a serial output you can get the serial cable kit which is cheaper....like $35 otherwise you will need the USB cable kit which is like $80. Either can be gotten at TTS Mastertune. Then go to www.tunemyharley.com and download the software there. I have not done it yet but I will be sure to post when I get it done. I figure $85 is a small price to pay if I can adjust my own mixture, timing, rev limiter, etc.
I'm seriously fixin' to take your advice and learn to do it myself. I guess I'll have to get it dyno'd to see if I'm doing any good (or bad).
Thanks for the info. BTW, I thought parade mode was only an option on touring models?
Not an option and all stock tuners do it when the bike gets hot enough. At least that's what I've read.
As far as dyno tuning goes, that's the reason I spent the extra bucks to have the auto tune.
I'm a poor man living on SSDI and I can't afford to run to the dyno shop every time i make a little change.
Agree with plumbertom. I have yet to find anything on the Nightriders web site that you couldn't take as gospel. They are also happy to discuss any specifics on the phone. I have been running XiEDs on my 07 FXDL for two years and have been
happy with them.
I've been running XIED's in Florida for a while now and it really did make a difference over last summer. Of course, I don't have a tuner yet, so the XIED's are all I'm running.
Since you have a SERT, your money would be better spent on a tune and/or parts required to tune yourself. An XIED is redundant to a tuner and could actually make it harder to properly tune your bike if you're running them.
The Nightrider sight discourages using XiED's with a SERT.... the XiED's defeat the Map. From there FAQ:
I have SERT, SEST or TTS for my bike. Can I use an XIED? Do I need an XIED?
Multiple fuel controllers always has the potential for problems because they can fight for control of the fuel mixture. Because these software tuning programs can alter the O2 Bias Tables, we do not recommend using XIED's with them. Our first recommendation to riders with these programs is to alter your bias tables to values in the 700-750 range, which accomplish the same thing as the XIED's. For bikes that have SERT/SEST/TTS installed with a canned fuel map downloaded by the Dealer or aftermarket shop, some riders have used IED's to further reduce engine heat. But because you have no idea what map might have been loaded or how it might have been altered, the impact of the IED's can not be predicted. For this reason, with SERT/SEST/TTS, we highly recommend working with your engine tuner to resolve engine performance issues by altering your current maps. One versions of SERT/SEST sold after 2010 is no longer able to make changes to the closed loop tuning area of the ECM.
