Default Problem solved

Issue - intermittent sputtering ... increasing in frequency and severity over a couple of weeks ...

Resolution - changed spark plugs ... front cylinder plug was fouled pretty bad ....

Note: I am running a little rich (or so I assume) ... plugs were light brown color with a lot of carbon build up on the front plug (almost closing the gap) ....

Will have to check the diagnosis from the spark plug color charts ... unless someone wants to volunteer their expertise and save me the trouble ....

About how often do y'all change plugs ... I have 24,000 mi and this is the second plug change I've done ... is that excessive ...?

I change my plugs at every service (every 5k miles). They're cheap so it's something I just do whether I need to or not.

No expertise on the plugs though, sorry. I've read from color charts that light tan is good, and the darker you go the more rich you're running. Powder white is too lean...etc.

You using HD plugs or another brand? If they're not burning hot enough to burn off all of the mixture this could lead to build up on the plugs.

I know I probably don't need to change my plugs as often as I do but I change them every oil change at 5,000 miles. I just got used to it with my Sporty. I didn't change my Sporty ones till after 10,000 miles until I had the 1250 conversion done and it started using oil like Oprah uses Krispy Kreme and I had it not start one time because of oil fouled plugs. I started changing them at each oil change and now I just do it for the Street Bob too. They always look almost new though when I pull them out, a tiny bit brown on them.

Here are a couple good charts

I do mine every oil change too. I think it is recommended for 5k miles in the service manual, but don't quote me on that.

My service manual says to inspect them every 10,000 miles and replace them every 20,000 miles.
