I did a few things to attempt a remedy for this problem, finally. I did a clutch adjustment and backed out the two nuts that attach the forward control extender bar (connection between the shifter in primary and foot lever itself) because they seemed to be a bit tight.
None of these things worked.
I dropped by the "stealer" and asked a tech what he thought and he mentioned that he's seen the problem before. GREAT!!
So he said that the foot shift lever on the forward control is too tight where it is seated between the peg and the mount. It's difficult to explain but I'm going to check this out and come back with results.
...I noticed that when I would down shift, the lever did not automatically return to downshift through the gears.
Have had the same "sticking" issue on my FXDP heel/toe shifter lever a few years ago.
I disassembled the heel/toe shifter (item 25), took out the shifter lever (item 24), cleaned it, put in some grease into the shifter shaft housing (item 26) and problems were gone!
That is exactly what I did. I sanded the shaft and cylinder that connects the foot shift lever to the shift arm. Upon my first test ride, it seemed to work fine. Thanks for the input- the sticking was driving me nuts.
