I was gonna ask if they were Dunlops. My 10 Streetbob came wth Michelins and an explanation that HD switched brands for better wear and traction.

I was suspicious that it was due to recent issues with Dunlop cupping and other problems similar to what you experienced.

I think they still offer the dunlops as replacements.

I recently had to replace my Dunlop with only 3,700 miles on it due to crack. Got Metzler tire instead. It looks and feels great. Suppose to last longer

Tires are only good for 6 - 7 years regardless of whether or not they are in use. ABC news did a special report on tires and dealers that were/are selling new tires that are older than 6 years. This shouldn't be the case on a 2010 bike but it doesn't hurt to get the info out there. Here's the link to the special report:

Thanks! I love this site. Tons of good info. I've been riding for just over a year and can't get enough of it. Thanks to info like this I may just make it to a lengthy lifetime.

I know people that mix tire brands but I have read that it's not a good idea.

I too have read it's not a recommended practice to use 2 different brands.
Man, that sucks......but better you finding it before it failed. Makes you wonder what's going on anymore. Do everyone a favor and post the DATA from your tire so others can check it against their dates.
I'm going to switch over to Michelin's when I need a new front. I just replaced a rear (@5300 miles) Dunlop for another...... but my front still has a ways to go. By the time I need a new rear, I'll need a front so that's when I'll do the switch. I've also heard some good reviews about Avon's.

You aren't supposed to mix a bias ply and a radial. They can really "throw" you or make the bike jump around. I have mixed up different brands of radials on bikes many times, almost all of the time.
