Default 2 questions

i just ordered a side kick seat for my bob. is there anything i can do to reduce the chance of marking up the fender if i take it off to go solo. secondly. what do i have to do to mount the passenger peg mounts. i've heard it is tougher than it looks.

Thanks

You're really gonna like that seat. I have one as well. I have the sidekick custom...the passenger section isn't the best, but it works. Yours might be a little better as I think it's a little more squared off in the rear. Either way, the rider section on the sidekicks are fantastic...very comfortable, and they look really good too.
To answer your question, I don't think you'll have to worry about it as much as you think. Those seats have a sort of 'carpeted' bottom. It's a soft cloth like material underneath, and you'd really have to be reckless to damage your fender with that seat. I also have a cheaper 'pillow-look' seat....it doesn't have the soft bottom. When installing that seat, it's a little easier to scratch up the rear fender.
Hope this helps.

I disagree. I put a factory Dyna Low seat on my Dyna Super and it has torn the rear fender up. I don't know what would have helped, but be careful.

I have the Sidekick seat in the “Toxic†stitch pattern and it has not caused any problems on the fender paint on my 06 Wide Glide. Veniculum is right, the rider section is comfortable and I know that you will be pleased with the new look. As for the OEM Dyna Low Rider seat on the Super Glide maybe they are constructed with a different seat pan or something. But the Sidekick hasn’t caused me any problems at all. (Well accept for having to send Zanotti HD some more money.)

disagree with what??? I didn't say anything about a factory seat. We're talking about the sidekick seat...it has a cloth bottom, and you'd really have to be trying to damage the fender with that seat. Did you read my post?

I have the sidekick also, it has the cremator pattern stiched in. a real quality seat. like ven said there is a carpeted bottom and i have not had any problem with any scratching of my rear fender. you would really have to put an effort in scratching your fender with it. real comfortable for the driver too! not so much for the passenger though[:@]
by the way veniculum, did you get your duece wheel on yet, I'd like to see some pics!

The problem with the low rider stock seat has nothing to do necessarily with whether or not there is carpet on the bottom of the seat. The lower sides of the seat where it is pleather rubs against the fender. Once dirt gets trapped (and it will), the paint starts slowly wearing away. I have the same problem with my bike from the stockseat. If the passenger pillon of the seat doesn't rub on the upper side of the fender, you should be okay. I have seen folks use little circular discs w/ carpeted bottoms, attached to the underside of the passenger seat part which seems to keep it off the paint. According to my stealer (take this with a grain of salt) there is NO WAY to prevent this...whatever.

Disregarding any stock seat (low rider, wide glide, etc) any seat you buy through HD that isn't stock comes with small plastic strips with an adhesive backing. So whether or not the seat has carpeting underneath (i.e. sidekick, rallyrunner) or not (pillow-look), those strips can be placed at the contact point where the rubber seat boots or any other point where the seat may contact the fender.
Can't speak for aftermarket seats, but ultimately, any HD seat other than stock shouldn't cause concern as far as the rear fender is concerned. And if you are running a stock seat and are having problems keeping the fender clean, I don't see why you couldn't request those tape strips from a dealer....or make your own.
