Default First Post - Looking for help with rear pulley change

Hi :-)

First post. (And such a friendly forum :-) 24 hours later and not even a single hello, let alone some advice on my question. Just kidding of course. Just a bump :-)

95 Glide. Dont have any current pictures. Will post as soon as I get some on the puter.

I am hoping to get some advice on changing my rear pulley.

I want to do two things at the same time with this change.

1. Install a narrower belt/pulley for more tire clearance.

2. Go taller in my final drive. Im thinking a 65/66 tooth rear.

Any thoughts or advice? Is there a thread already set up for this topic that I should read?

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry, but that's all I can offer you. I'm pretty sure you will get some help soon with your questions. (Don't forget the pics.)

Hey, welcome to the forums. Keep in mind this is a holiday weekend, so responses might be a little slower than normal. That said, here's my little tidbit.

My wife has a 98 Softail which we intend to put a 1-1/8" wide pulley on, stock size of 70 tooth. We're doing basically the same thing, going to a wider tire, need the clearance.

As for the gearing changes, I'm not much of an expert on that stuff, but there is an extensive thread on here about changing the gearing on 06 and later Dynas by going to a 30T transmission sprocket. You might check those out to answer your questions. Obviously not a direct answer, but the concept would be similar.

Oh yeah, and with that drastic of a change in rear pulley size, you'll most likely have to change your belt which means pulling the primary off.

Welcome to Forum, I recall reading that rear pulley change might change your speedo reading, using new pulley bolts, they are single use ones.
