I am 6ft 265 and I thought my bike looked undersized to me,so now I am installing a wide glide front end so I dont feel like a doofus. Not that you cant make any bike fit with the proper mods, but if you are just gettin back do you really want to do a bunch of crap to a new bike?? WIDEGLIDE
Here's a pic of my 6'5" 260lbs son sitting on his brothers BMW to check it out. That is his 06 Street Bob with the ammo can saddle bags. He did not put forward controls on it. This pic was from Butte Mont. on our way to the Arctic Circle last year. He started in Chicago for the 9,000 mile round trip.
He has about 24,000 on it and has no problem with comfort.
The second pic is me at 6'3" getting my 010 Dyna Super Glide. I have over 1,200 miles on it and have not found any need to go to forward controls either.
I rode a Buell with mid controls for that ride and at 70 yoa I did just fine. My XR1200 has mid controls also.
Get one and ride it for awhile. I like the mid controls in case I ever need to stand up. After about 2k miles then you should know for sure if you need to spend the money.
I'm 6 foot, 260 and my 2010 Wide Glide is a good fit. I agree that the little bit of extra rake makes the bike seem a bit bigger, but that said I'm also working on putting a wider front tire on it to make the front end as fat as my front end!
I'm 6'2" 240 lbs and my Fat Bob feels more comfortable than the recliner does. Unfortunately the wife does not like the idea of me parking the bike in front of the TV at night...
6' and just shy of 300lbs, and I kept the mids on my BOB. I'm totally comfortable with the bike and how it handles. With your height I recommend forwards, but your size is fine on a SB. And I would definitely go with the Street Bob, I love mine!!!
6'4"/230 here. Took me a couple of years and some experimenting here and there but my bike fits me perfect now. The ingredients for me were a lower seat that allows a little more movement backward, extended forward controls, and aftermarket handlebars to get my hands and arms where it felt right.
Other than the rake, the dyna frame, motor, etc, is basically the same. The WG is longer and looks longer than it really is when compared to the others. That might help if you are concerned with your look on the bike. But, I'd buy what I want and do what is necessary to make it fit. Personally, I like the new WG better anyway. If I were to trade or if it were available when I bought mine, that's what I'd be scootin on anyway.
This thread asks my question. O.P has already laid the groundwork so I'll just piggyback it..
I'm in the same, exact boat here...anymore Big guys here w pics on your Street Bobs?
