Default I screwed up!! Need help asap!!!!

I have a 2006 dyna and i droped a 4 in piece of 3/8 rubber hose down into the engine oil pan through the filler neck. I have been trying for a couple of hours now to retreive it but i can only snag it some of the time but cant get it out. does anybody have an expanded view of the oil pan assy? will it hurt for it to be in there? Is there any other hoses down in there that I may be snaging instead of the one I am trying to get? Need all the advice i can get on this f$#@ up. Dont ask what i was doing, you dont want to know.

Long shot but what about filling it up completely with oil? Is it on the surface or below? You could always drain the excess.

I've seen my buddies at the shop use grabbers that are on a flexible cable and the clamp is closed by sliding something from the end-- I can't explain it, but they make 'em.

Your biggest problem may being able to see what you're doing. This is just a total WAG, but I wonder if you stick a small, thin, on another cable (I've seen them too) special purpose light up through the drain hole and operate the clamp/grabber thing from the top -- ?????? Or maybe you can operate both from the top, or maybe you can use -- Whatever. But you're gonna have to see.

You can almost certainly get it out, just don't panic and make things worse. You're going to need some special tools and maybe some special help but I don't think it's the end of the world just yet. By that I mean tearing the bike apart.

I don't know if it will plug anything or if it may get caught up in the rotating assembly or not. But it Will probably start to come apart someday, maybe sooner rather than later, and all those little pieces are going to get pumped into your oiling system and you're not going to like what happens then.

You can't leave it in there. Forget it.

What would I do:
1) I'd get away from it for a while and go back at it later..2) I'd drain the oil just so the hose wouldnt float around and go fishing again....

Lastly after 4 hours if I didnt get it out I'd seek professional assistance.

After thought....VACUME?

Can the hose go all the way to the bottom of the pan or is there a baffle half way down?

I've gotta ask it. Why is there a piece of hose in your oil pan?

Go to Autozone or O'Reillys and get the cable thing with the grabby thing on the end. That and a small flash light. Go fishing and good luck. Or very long hemostats.

Default Hosed The Oil Pan

Those grabby things are mechanical fingers. The ones with 2 prongs are stronger than the ones with four. I personally would drain all the oil out and get a small inspection mirror to find and retrieve it with the mechanical fingers...Unless you have a borescope.
