Default Need help in removing my throttle and idle cables from my 2010 Wide Glide

OK I started taking things apart to change my bars and cables. Everything was going good until I got to the throttle and Idle cables. My service manual will probably come in tomorrow but in the mean time I am stuck. Doesn't appear they will disconnect from the handlebar. I removed the grip and Ferrells but the cables will not pull through the handlebar control. I'm guessing they need to be disconnected from the other end.It looks like the air cleaner needs to be removed to access the cables but that's just a guess without the service manual.Anyway I don't want to be guessing and removing things when I'm not sure. If anyone could help me out I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.

spray some contact cleaner on them and grab them and use your thumb
as leverage to pull them out.
Sometimes they come out like butter others pack a lunch.
Oh and no offense, if you can't figure out how to do simple things such as this w/o a manual, maybe you shouldn't be wrenching on the bike......

I appreciate the quick response with an answer and no offense but I don't appreciate the smart *** response. I learned along time ago better to ask when in doubt if someone is available to offer an answer. I would rather ask than break something and cost myself time and money that could have been avoided. When I was younger I was much more likely to just do and not ask, anyone else relate to that?

Here's what the 2003 Dyna models Service Manual says:

"Pull the cables from the housing by placing a drop of oil on the retaining ring that holds the cable in the housing, then firmly pull the bent tubing portion of the cable out of the housing using a rocking motion".

Subject has already been discussed in several threads; you could check out this one:

yup... just rock them from side to side and the retaining ring should release.

and i do know what ya mean, i had to look at my manual to do this also, just dont want to break anything since this is my first bike and its worth a bit a money. the only dumb question is the one that goes un-asked...

just want to say that HDTech74's reply is so lame. I'm having the same problem with my ape install right now, and I've noticed this topic has come up quite a bit. It really serves no use to tell people they shouldn't be wrenching if they can't do something that YOU already know how to do. There is a first time for everything, and it's always better to ask questions and learn from others who have already been down that road.

BTW - the service manual doesn't say how to remove the retaining rings that keep the throttle/idle cable attached the switch housing (at least it doesn't in my 08 Sportster manual). That's what I'm stuck on now.

Thanks to everyone else who patiently provided the answer. I will try it out this morning.

did this yesterday to put on my new bars, there is a little clip on the inside pop this off then just pull them through, you should get new little clips with the new cables, you cant mix them up as the holes are different sizes on the WG at least not sure about other bikes.

BTW the manual says to put some oil in there and pull them out bit silly when there is a clip in there holding them in.

the bottom is real easy to get off I took my air cleaner off to make it easyier,

The forum is for like minded people to discuss everything about their motorcycle, what may be obvious to some may not be so obvious to others. So why not ask? No Offense
