Had my birthday yesterday and the wife gifted new pegs, brake pad and shifter (bye bye stock!). I had the mid-mounts hardware left over from when HD installed my forward controls so I bought an extra set so I could mount a set of mid-pegs. I put the mid-mount brackets back on, but don't have the bolts that go through the pegs to mount them. I don't know if the HD service dept used them when they moved the controls forward, or lost them, or whatever, but they weren't in the parts box that I got back from them. Bottom line is I have the mounts on and I have the pegs but am missing the bolts (and nuts).
I've seen many of you with this setup and I was wondering where I could find the two bolts I need. Does HD have a part number for them? Are they something I could get at the hardware store?
I guess I could have found the answers by doing allot of calling around, but it's after hours. The forum's are open 24/7 so I thought someone here would have (as usual) some good advice.
Ace Hardware. Chrome allen head bolts, chrome plastilock acorns. Might also find them at Lowes or Home Depot. Got mine at Ace, They have a great selection of chrome and stainless.
Just finished my reply to Jackyl and saw your reply TOMMAY. I'll probaby try ACE before the stealer. They're allot closer to me than HD and they have better odds of haveing them in stock (ha ha).
My guess is that the dealer misplaced them in the shop, since the forwards (on mine any way) came with chromed button heads for the brackets.
The part number for the stock footpeg bracket bolts is 3214 and they are Grade 8 bolts. They are about $1.50 each at the HD dealer, if you get them elsewhere, just make sure they are the same grade as the originals. A lot of Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot etc. are cheaper "imported" bolts that may either break if over torqued or snap at the wrong time. For a $6.00 worth of bolts, I think I'd go OEM Harley.
Thanks DGlide. You said "footpeg bracket bolts". Are we talking about the same thing? I already have the brackets bolted to the bike. The bolts that I need are the ones that hold the pegs on (go through bracket then the peg then the bracket). Sorry if I wasn't clear in this description or my earlier description.
These aren't the excat ones, but they look like THIS.
The bolts that go through the footpegs on my 07 FXD are Cap screw, hex head, 3/8-16 x 1 1/2 in. (2) HD p#4721 Spring washer p# 50912-72 (2) and Hex lock nut, 3/8-16 (2).
