i'm putting highway pegs on.if anyone's done them themselves i'd appreceate any info.tools needed etc.do you punch the plugs out, yada yada.i.got a 2010 super glide custom.
Done twice. 1st time with non HD parts that were terrible. Bolts were low grade 2 that stretched and sheared. Chrome plating that rippled after torquing bolts to specs - or at least trying as they stretched. Returned the garbage parts and got Genuine HD. Bolts are SAE grade 8 to frame and grade 5 in other areas. Instructions can be downloaded from HD website under accessories after you select your bike and part. Learned my lesson. Only Genuine HD parts - no short cuts nor cheap knock off parts.
I did this 3.5 years ago so here is what I remember.
1:Pop/pull the plastic plugs out from frame, (do what seems obvious).
2:Line up the mount braces with holes in frame.
3:Screw in the braces with allen wrench/box wrench and tighten, (I don't know the torque specs but use loctite).
4 Attach peg mounts and pegs.
I did mine on my 2010 FXDC using these from Custom Chrome --
The quality appears to be top notch so far.
I then traded out the footpeg mounts for these --
'Cause I'm only 5'9" tall and the regular pegs didn't quite give me the comfort. They're also about an inch longer. So that feeling of just barely having the inside 1/3 of your foot, particulary on the right side for some reason (air box probably), on the peg is gone.
The part #s are CC: 25256
Kury X-tension: 4515
Not completely sure about the looks of it. I thought maybe the bike looked like Dumbo going down the road but everybody else sez it looks fine. Not sure I care a whole lot. I'm more interested in comfort at this stage than anything else.
