Default installed thunderheader and running hot!

So i spent the better part of the day installing my new thunderheader, big sucker, and power commander III and I took it for a quick little spin and it's running pretty hot, like a lot more noticeable than my vance and hines big radius pipes. Thanks for the help guys.

Are you running an appropriate map?

yes I had the powercommander III sent from fuel moto and told them what I would be running and they hooked me up. Am I missing any other steps?

Is it the pipe that is running hotter or the engine?
What year bike do you have?
I assume you went through all the proper steps to down load the map to the PCIII, open map and send map, etc. Might want to recheck to make sure you did install the right map?? O2 eliminators installed?
Might try the Dyno jet map for the T-Header or compare them? Tough one to solve over the intertubes.

Re-reading, I take it that Fuel Moto sent you the PCIII with the Map for the T-Header already installed, so you don't really know the correct map.

Did you install the heat shields on the Thunder Header? If not you are going to feel a lot more heat from the pipe.

the thunderheader will feel more hot than big radius 2-2 pipes. the t-header is longer, has more bends, has less protective heat shields...

The Thunderheaders do run hotter (as noted above), so you need to determine if it is the engine or the headers that are so hot. If it's the T-header, then I would wrap it (of course, that's my answer to most exhaust and/or cosmetic issues - if it looks bad, cover it).

Get an infrared thermometer and check your cyl head temps after a 1 hour ride. Check your oil temp too. With the IR thermometer you will notice big temp differences between pipes, cyl heads, cooling fins etc. If your oil temps are over 270F you should probably re-map and definitely be running synthetic oil.

Thanks for the help guys, I think it's just the thunderheader itself that is running hotter than what Im used to, the engine seems fine, the bike runs great too. Might just be paranoid after my first "big" project I did myself on my first bike. Hopefully I can post pics later, Im way behind on the power curve as far as that goes...Thanks for the help.

My thunderheader is hot, hot, hot. I took a quick ride yesterday wearing shorts. It was burning the **** out of my leg sitting at red lights.
