I'm new to the forums so a little info. I ride a 2000 FXD. Purchased used about a year ago with 13,000 miles and since then put about 11,000 on it. It's been a great ride for the most part but I've encountered a few issues that my small town motorcycle mechanic can't seem to fix and I'm looking for some advice.
Just recently the choke seems to move back in after I start it. It will not stay out unless I hold it. Also the check engine light comes on everytime I throttle up while on the road. Doesn't happen unless I'm moving. I'm not so swift when it comes to mechanics but I do know when somethings not right. Also seems to run a little rough. Carburetor issues I'm guessing. It does have the stock carb.
I suggest you track down someone that knows bikes and get them to look it over could be all sorts of things wrong with it. I am sure someone near you will know the answer
should not leave your choke out anyway , only to start and then use your throttle scew to hold the gas on , and ring harley and they will tell you how to get the codes from the engine light and tell you what is wrong
The choke has a plastic, knurled nut behind it that is used to tighten against the choke. Just tighten it up a bit with your thumb and forefinger and that should take care of it....unless it's broken which means it has to be replaced.
