RE: installing forward controls on 07 Super Glide?
The "proble" is the shifter shaft that extends through the inner and outer primaries. It's a one piece design. There's no way to unbolt the arm from the inside end of the shaft. To remove it, you have to remove the inner primary.
BUT, you don't actually have to remove the arm. You can leave it in place. The outside stub can be covered with a chrome cover available from KA. You could just leave the shaft to swing around free. But it will bang on the inner primary and make annoying noises. I saw somebody had made a small bracket to hold it in place. One end bolted onto the shifter shaft, and one end to an existing nut on the engine case. Pretty slick.
RE: installing forward controls on 07 Super Glide?
this is a pretty easy job, you should be able to handle it in around 1 hour, softails are harder to do because of the rear brake master cylinder but dynas are easy.

Buy the kit for 2005 and earlier.
I just installed this kit on my 2006 and it is pretty straightforward.
The kit comes with the cover for the shifter shaft...it's held on by a set screw.
It also has the bracket to bolt the other end to one of the bolts in the engine block.
I really didn't want to take the time to remove the primary covers just to get the shift shaft out. My thinking is that if I sell the bike, it's a quick swap back to the mid controls...or possibly if you had an injury and had to switch to the mids for a while to keep riding it is much simpler.

In the installation kit, the chrome cap comes with the packge. AS was said before. Besides I removed the forwards from my '04 FXD and installed it to my '06 FXDCI, the only thing I had to do was buy the shifter rod for the '06.

Has anyone done this on the 07 without removing the primary? The guy at my dealer still says it has to be removed. but looks to me like it could be done without.
