Absolutely. It is my primary transportation as well. Complaining about a $300 tire sounded to me like a hobbyist, though, and thus my answer.
$300 just for the cost of the tire does seem a little steep. I dont use the dealer for anything that i dont have to. Mainly indy's for parts and such and i do all my own work. (But no more rubber hose's) LOL
I think the stock Fat Bob tire, pricey or not (from the dealer, yes, pricey) is a very good tire. I've been totally impressed with it's handling and especially stopping capabilities. I've got nearly 12,000 on mine and it was inspected a week ago and it's still perfectly functional (and I proved that to myself a few days ago with one of those hairy "have to stop real quick" situations in a downpour!) I've never had a bike that handled better in rain and maybe part of that is the True Track and maybe not. And maybe it's that the Fat Bob has those wonderful dual discs up front, and I've used my front brake more than I have on any other bike. (Also I'm one of those weirdos who goes up and down the gears, I downshift to a stop, maybe that saves tire wear?) I expect to replace both tires soon and feel they were great performers and well fitted to this bike.

$300 dollars is a grossly overinflated price, you dealer is a dick (like mine). You can pick up a Dunlop D427 (rear) at Latusmotors.com for $188 with no tax and free shipping. This is what I'm doing for my 1st tire change, since I still have plenty of wear left up front. I don't want to risk having different tires front and back. Next time I'll look at Metzler or Avon when I replace both.
i think the part number for that tire is 43228-08 and in the HD cataloge it sells for 216.95. And Zanotti's has it for 174.30+ shipping. I'd try Zanotti's if I were you..
Just last week I bought the G502 SE 180 tire from them and shipping to Calif. was 16 bucks.
I had a metzler me880 on it and got 9500 miles and was just past the wear marks..
If your just gonna burn it up in no time theres always the Kenda option. They are like 60-70 bucks a shot. No, they are not Avon's, but I run them on the back of my Shovel and have never had, nor ever even HEARD of some one having an issue with one. And they last fairly long. My Shovels never had a speedo, but a couple seasons seems about average duration for a Kenda.
