Finished my 'custom' solo seat!
Ok so it's "custom" - I scored a great condition Street Bob solo take-off on eBay a while back (been busy riding so it was a LONG while back) for a price I couldn't pass up. I finally got around to crafting a seat pan that would fit my 1999 Dyna Super Glide and reforming the foam. I think it turned out pretty good.
The new pan is 16ga mild steel. Bent up really nicely with a sandbag and a deadblow hammer. Welded on the front tab from 1/8" bar stock, and welded nuts on for the rear catch. Rolled the edges with a pair of pliers and then smoothed it all out with a heavy hand on the sanding discs. Used various sanding discs to reform the foam. Managed to get away with straight re-use of the Street Bob covering and pop-riveted it in place. Once I'm sure I'm happy with the seat form I will most likely venture to make up a custom leather cap.
It's definitely not as comfortable as my Sundowner, but it DEFINITELY makes the bike more aggressive looking. Not bad for less than $50 total investment.
