A metric bike I owned years ago toppled off the kickstand once. Level parking lot, no wind...I still don't know what happened. I do know harley's seem a lot more stable on their kicks than some other bikes I've owned!
It's a legit question if you're coming to Harleys for the first time. Especially from the Japanese side of motorcycling.
The kickstands on some of those bikes are about as reliable as your ex-wife with one of your credit cards.
Give the kid a break.
Yeah, but they're never gonna break in normal use. I'd worry more about not putting it out properly and the bike rolling forward off it, After years of jap bikes my Dyna stand never seems to go far forward enough for my liking.
Well if the same folks in the R&D are in charge of the kickstand that oversee the IPB, stator/rotor, wheel bearings, wiring in rear fender, front isolators, then I'd say you got a viable concern. Personally, what I do when I change the oil, and it's up on a lift, throw the kickstand back and forth a few times, check it out, look for cracks or whatever, I have heard the spring coming undone, which would cause kickstand malfunction at the wrong time and place. Lube it up with some grease and roll on.
I'm not worried about the kickstand falling off, but the design of it throws me off completely.. it doesn't have that "foot" that a lot of other kickstands do. I've been off and on a bunch of HD's when I've been lookin to get one and I have never felt very confident putting them back down on the stand.
