I run a Zumo 550 and do not leave home without it. I have a ram mount that sits between the risers. Also since I am currently living in Germany the Zumo give me KPH and warns me of safety (speed and red light) cameras. It is nice to be able to just ride and not worry about where I am. And when it is time to get gas it will take me to the nearest gas station or I can choose Esso as that is cheapest for me here in Germany.

I bought a Tom Tom at Walmart for 99 bucks a couple years ago. It goes in every vehicle I own. Its been a lifesaver. It comes with me every where we ride.

Are the GPS mentioned water proof or water resistant ...? I have Magellan 1470 I got my wife last Christmas, but she doesn't use it ... I tried it on my bike one time mounting the suction cup to my speedo face, but it came loose and I had to put it in my pocket for the rest of the ride ... I don't think mine is waterproof ....

I, too, find them very handy ... I could see having something like the Dragon Fly fairing setup with the all-in-one display unit ... GPS units really do make speedometers unnecessary ... (I guess you don't have odometer ... also would need to have a couple of additional lights for fuel pump, low fuel and security, I suppose) ....

All the Zumos are designed for motorcycles. My 550 has trip odometers, speed, top speed, trip times (total moving, total stopped, and overall total) and then some.

Todd,

Rode for hours in rainy weather (rain showers) on my Mascot trip to Germany last May....Zumo worked fine and still does, which leads me to the conclusion the 550 is pretty "rain proof"

The Zumo 660 is designed to do what you want. Weather proof and it comes with both car and cycle mounts (mounts to the left side switch housings). It includes cycle and car mounts in the box and has settings for each and walking (automatically switches between them based on the mount connected). The battery lasts for hours and has the top of the line garmin software features. You can set up a route on the desktop computer (Mac or PC) and down load it. The Zumo has everything you want for a price. There are certainly less $$ way to do it, of course. But if you don't want to screw around, it is a top quality well made product, well thought out for both cycle and car. I have a bluetooth helmet headset and play my MP3s via the Zumo, as well as take phone calls when and if I want.

I ran the power down under the tank to the always on pigtail connector under the seat.

Rene,

I pulled the riser clamp, countersunk a screw hole on the underside of the riser clamp and and ran a screw up (out) and into the hex stand-off. The threaded post of the stand-off I epoxied into a plastic ball that I cut off from a suction cup mount.

If that description wasn't clear I could try to sketch it for ya.

I got an old Garmin Quest that I mounted on the handlebars. Its old, small screen but its waterproof and gets the job done.
