Like a lot of other folks have posted I have the 550 which I use in my car and bike. I like the 550 because it's easy for me to work wearing gloves.
My only suggestion is that whatever GPS you buy, mount it in your car first. Learn to use it in the car. Get so familiar with it that you do not have to look and think, just push buttons. If I am going to make a mistake or get distracted while learning to use the damn thing, I prefer to do it in my car where I have some protection. Then after you are comfortable using it, go ahead and mount it on the bike.
Riding a motorcycle down the road is NOT the time or place to learn how to use the GPS.
I've got a Garmin eTrex that I bought for hiking that I was going to try and mount to the bike. Not as big a screen as the car ones, but hey, I've already got it. Otherwise I just use my Android phone and check it periodically.
i wanted cheap, so i made my own. took a bracket and bolted it to the winshield bolt (just used a longer bolt on the middle one)
then made a splitter for my fork bag stereo...to power it
I have been looking at adding a GPS as well but was wondering if the LCD wash out in the sun? If so, is ther a visor avail?
Thanks
I have the Nuvi 205 (the water resistant version). Yes it does wash out in the sun so I made a visor out of plastic and velcro. Works fine unless sun is directly overhead.
Garmin Nuvi 1350T. Large screen, adjustable screen brightness, touch screen and a whole bunch of handy features. Ram Mount and a power wire from gpsgeek.com. Comes with windshield mount so it's easily switchable between car and bike.
I like this GPS because it transmits on any FM channel you choose, and I can set my MP3 player to use FM radio. I tune my MP3 player in to the same channel my GPS is broadcasting and it barks orders through my speakers.
