Default quick oil question

just did another oil change on my 06 dyna and the primary never seems to take the whole bottle, so the question is do you fill the primary with the bike on the stand or upright. It looks like i got 24 oz into it, does this sound right. And i also dont get the whole bottle into the tranny again about 6 oz left in the bottle. thanks for any input,

Do you have a service manual?????

I am guessing not.....

The 06 Dyna primary is to be filled with 32 oz of Formula+ or Syn3, and it is to be done UPRIGHT.....

The level (If you were using a manual) will be at the bottom of the Diaphram spring.....

The tranny gets 32 oz as well, checked upright, and you DONT screw the dipstick in all the way... You REST IT ON THE TOP OF THE THREADS...

Again, this is in the manual.......

Lastly, ensure that the fluid is at operating temp, so as to COMPLETELY drain out of their respective cavities....

Clayman,
Since I don't have a bike lift, I just put a 2 x 4 or some boards under the jiffy (kick) stand to get it level. It works fine and then you will be able to get all the fluid in there. Good luck.

Thanks for the slightly sarcastic response. I have the service manual and did not see that info in there hence the question, i may have not seen it but i read the section on the primary and never saw anything about whether the bike was to be on the stand or up right. And as far as what i can read in my manual in the tranny section it says to have the bike on its stand on a level surface, it says nothing about being up right.

i seemto be a little confused and would appreciate some clarification, when the book says place the bike on the jiffy stand on a level surface are they meening on level ground or are they saying place something under the jiffey stand to make the bike level. I have always treated it as lean the bike over on the stand and do all your filling and checking from there, have i been wrong.

The "level surface" would refer to the ground being level, bike on the sidestand leaning. I own the service manual for my bike too, but when I post a question, I get the same "go get a manual" comments too. Sometimes you just want more clarification.

Bob wasn't being sarcastic, he was telling it like it is.
The info. you are looking for is in the service manual, you must have just missed it. I believe it is in the first section under maintenance.

Well thanks for attempting to read the mind and motives of Bob but as i said i do have the manual and did read it and Bob was wrong on two points 1, in the primary section it does not state whether to have the bike on the stand or upright, it says nothing about bike position and 2, in the tranny section it says to have the bike on the stand on a level surface, not upright. Now i dont know why you feel the need to come on here and defend Bob, i personally am alittle tired of people and there sarcastic condescending remarks, this is supposed to be chat forum on bike issues where people seek advice, share information and God forbid ASK QUESTIONS. So forgive me for posting a question that you and Bob felt wasnt worthy of a respectful response, but in the future, as mom always said if you have nothing nice to say than dont say ANYTHING.

Did you look in the MAINTENANCE section (the first section in the manual)?

Look, no matter what, I wasn't trying to be condascending, but who cares about it, it's done.....

The first section in the manual titled "Maintenance" is what you go buy....

And it will give you SPECIFIC capacities as well as pictures, not the greatest pics (Sometimes drawings), but it is something to use as a reference......

The new style Primary AND Trans on the DYNA take 32 oz. of Formula+, Syn3 or whatever fluid you choose.....

And yes, 1 small mistake, the bike is to be on the sidestand, but it states that you REST THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE THREADED SECTION SHOULD REST ON THE LIP OF THE HOLE. DO NOT SCREW FILLER CAP IN.
