I have been unhappy with the feel of the 49 mm forks on the 07 FXD. They felt chattery and unsettled. I was on the verge of springing for the intiminators.
I have about 8700 miles on the bike and figured that the rear tire was nearing maypop status and wanted a better tire anyway. Went for the Metzler 880. Always had good luck with Metzler products. I changed the front tire, as I like matching treads. No real reason, just makes me feel good.
Good thing I did. 90 percent of the hinkiness I felt in the front end is GONE. I'll play with the fork oil and maybe springs, but I think this is pretty close AS IS.
Hell yeah, ever ride over an open grate steel bridge with the dunlops? Thought somebody else was steering the bike! Metzlers are the best tire I ever put on my bike.
I have replaced the rear @ 9,000 miles using the 880. Was suitably impressed w/ it on wet & dry roads to order another for the front; even though there is still a lot of tread on that Dunlop there is bad cupping, and I can feel it in the hardest turns.
I have a Jireh 21 x 3.25 rim brand new in box that will allow you to run a 120/70/21 on that wideglide. It will lace to your hub. I will let it go for what I have in it. 50 bux shipped.
I threw a Metzler 120/70/21 on the front of my bike. Feels great, doesn't track like the old one did on these southern Cali highways. It really grips well in the turns too. Take my account with a grain of salt though because the tire it replaced was near bald.
Anyone got insight? Isn't cupping on a tire a sign tire pressure is to low? What else could cause that?
