Has anyone attempted to install a Softail(or Wide Glide) style ignition switch onto a Dyna? If so, what approach did you take. If not, does anyone have any suggestions.
The keyed ignition on the forks is a real pain. It would be nice to be able to turn the ignition on and off without the key, plus I think it would be a trick mod.
You will still need a key. On the inside of the **** is where you need to insert your key to unlock the switch. It is like the key you use to unlock your wheel locks on your vehicle but smaller.

True, but if you don't lock it everytime you stop then you can just jump on turn the ignition to on and let er rip! Similar on the Glides for that matter, although the lock isn't hidden like on a softtail.
Made my own bracket at work, bought an aftermarket Softail ign switch and had the local dealer install it all over the winter. Works great and I don't have to worry about the key falling out of the stupid fork mounted switch anymore. FYI, you can buy a manufactured kit from J&P Cycles for this very purpose (*EDIT: see pg 267, lower right corner of page, '06 J&P Cycles Harley parts catalogue*) only their kit does not fully enclose the rear of the switch in a watertight, sealed housing like mine does. Here's a pic:
I ended up ordering a replacement switch from J&P Cycles for a softtail, drilled a hole in my stock streetbob console, fabbed up a bracket out of stainless that mounts on the back side that is held on by two chrome screws through the top of the console. It turned out well, almost looks factory. And no more screwing around with the key. I'll try to post a pic when I get home this evening.
