SteveO-II You're probably right about the H13's. Best to check the owners manual for specifics bulb replacement numbers. I know my Low Rider and our Heritage Softail Classics all take H4's in both the Sylvania Silverstars and PIAA's Xtreme White Plus series.
The H13 Xtreme White PIAA bulb does have a different wattage
Wattage: 65/55w = 85/75w XTRA, 4000K Engineered for sustained performance in applications where a high level of vibration and moisture protection is required.
Does the Fat Bob have that much of a lower wattage for their high beam? Is it because it has dual headlamps?
The aftermarket 65/55 = 100/90 (or whatever they claim) bulbs do not equal the lumen output of a true 100/90 offroad bulb, not even close.
They are just a different color, no more light actual light output than a standard 65/55 H4.
I tried Silvania Silver Stars and Extreme White Piaa's and was unimpressed (especially for the price)
I now run Phillips "Rally H4" bulbs in all my bikes (true 100/90W) with no issues what-so-ever.
When properly adjusted they do not blind oncoming traffic nor do they damage any housing/wiring from the extra heat/current draw.
...and they are white, not that annoying "blue" color that makes me want to get out the .22.
Although, for a FatBob I might go a different route since the housings are so small (and there's two of them)
i put an hid in about a year ago. i mounted mine in a fork bag right under the headlight. best part about it... it was free. a buddy of mine pulled a kit outta a civic at the used car dealer he works for cuz the other ballast was bad. i love it and its usually the first thing people ask me about when i pull up anywhere.
Don't just install HID bulbs on your standard housing. HIDs require proper optic lenses. Otherwise, without optic headlight, you will be brighting oncoming traffic and ask for unneccessary response (usually cars win). Harley has HID ready optical housings. Check their catalog.
Also, using HID bulbs in non OEM housings becoming illegal in more states.
