One of the items I want to do this winter is a HID light for my fatbob. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for places to look for one? I assume I would have to replace the housing to get one large enough to hold the housing inside? Thanks.
Personally, my husband, daughter and I are running PIAA Xtreme White Plus Anti-Vibration bulbs in each of our bikes. Had them for 3 full seasons with no problems. Just dont ever touch the bulb with bare hands. Oils transfered to it will damage and shorten the life of the bulb. My Dyna and Hubby & Daughters Heritage all take the H4 bulb, which is the 60/55W = 110/10W bulb which replaces what we had and what's in the owners manual. It's plug and play as well, nothing extra needed. You can buy them at most any auto store or online at Amazon. Prices vary for the same bulb, so check around.
The PIAA is VERY, VERY BRIGHT AND WHITE. Can see ya coming a mile away. I run mine on HIGH beams all the time. Better safe than sorry. I also put the Harley HID Fog Lights on my engine guards. Love them.....and it really lights up both sides of the road at night to see them critters.
I replaced my bulbs with the PIAA bulbs also............Love them, the oncoming traffic most definitely knows I'm coming. I get flashed about every fourth vehicle or so, and that's with them adjusted just a touch over what HD specs say, but that gives me the light to see real good at night on these back country roads.
Ps: Like they say on the package: Up to 50%wider dispersion 40% greater length, and 50% brighter

You can really tell when an oncoming biker has either the PIAA, HID or Sylvania Silverstars on. It's amazing the color difference and brightness between standard issue and these brighter bulbs. It's definately a plus at night, but more a safety issue for me to use them during the daylight hours. The more visable I am to a cager, the better chances I have of getting home in one piece. Lets face it, Dyna's dont have the 7" headlamp and/or multiple front lamp set ups that say a Heritage Softail or Road Kings do. So the more visible I am, the better.
i am putting in my HID this weekend, in my opinion there is nothing better! i have run stars and piaa but HID, just rocks. ran it in my fighter and loved it! now i got them for all the cars, my bikes, and even got a few for my buddies when i ordered. ill take pics of my instal if you want
I have made a few sets. There is no one who makes a hidden ballast which is hidden under the gas tank except for me. This is the same way as you casn do them with Softails also.
You can use other kits if you do not mind the ballasts exposed or I have seen one guy put them in tool bag hangong from your forks which would be the cheapest way to do it.

Reason: Spelling = mine / mind
I have an HID on my 04 Low Rider, I got the 5 3/4" light from Eastern Performace for $99 and HID kit from a local shop here in New Orleans. The HID's really light up everything big time nothing is better, the ballast for mine fit right into the bucket no problem. The trick is to a kit with a small ballast.
