Filter Element changeout... any consequences?
I'm a HD newb who bought an '06 SB in January (I'm the 3rd owner as far as I can tell), and its fast approaching the 10,000 service interval. It has SE-2 Slip-on's, and a SE Stage-1 A/C setup. The filter element is P/N 29442-99C... I can see it's not the highest quality and want to replace it with a K&N HD-800. In your opinions, will this upgrade affect any mapping that may have been done to the bike or are the two "close enough" in air flow characteristics to not worry about it?
Also, there was just a small dribble of oil inside at the bottom of the throttle body that looks like it came from a port at the top that has a line that runs somewhere to the motor (I assume its from the crankcase.. haven't looked to hard yet), is that normal to have that happen?
The bike runs like a raped-ape and cranks out PLENTY of power with a combined GVW of vehicle/passenger(s)/equipment of over 1000-lbs.
Thanks for any input!
Joe, after looking just a few minutes ago with a "fresh mind", that port (at the 12 o'clock position) is connected to a sensor, not a hose.... DOH! I wiped the grime out of it last night, but I rubbed an oily finger around to simulate where I saw the oil (at the 6 o'clock position). Notice the oily gunk still on the edges of the butterfly valve (for a lack of a better term) in the top photo, then in the bottom photo with the throttle opened you can see the build-up along the axis of the valve.

I'm thinking its from the breather hoses you see on either side of the intake... from what I've been reading in the service manual, the oil is supposed to be seperated from the pressurized air/vapors when taken from the crank case before it gets to the A/C assembly....
Joe, for what its worth (coming from me), I have grown to respect your motorhead skills since I've been lurking here starting back in January, and I appreciate any input you may have on this! BTW- Your bike (and it's specs) are the SHIZZO!
cheers,
-Tony
That is also a (one of the) test(s) for an intake leak ... if you had an intake leak, the motor would not die ... it might slow down significantly, but if it doesn't die that indicates you have an intake leak ....
The ECM (electronic control module) carefully modulates the IAC to ensure your bike starts and idles correctly ....

p.s. you might consider shooting a brief blast of carb cleaner up into the IAC ... to ensure you didn't introduce any foreign matter into the IAC that might block the passage ....
