Default Hid

well a few months ago a customer dropped off some HID units for me to try... i installed one in my street fighter but it sold almost right away after that so i did not get to really use it... so the other one i tossed in my bob on fri night... this thing is AWESOME!!!! took a bit of work to make fit, had to cut and shave down the lense backing... but i know Howard at motorcycle metal has them with slim line balasts, this one was def not, but in the future i will be ordereing howards slim line... man! i can not belive that anyone would ride without HID, i am putting it in all my bikes this week
the sheer amount of light that this sucker puts out is insane!!!

What do you think of this kit?

The third video on this page looks like the install is simple as hell and at $150 the price isn't that bad is it?

HID put off no more heat (even less actually) then a reg bulb, and pull less power...
Wyde, they all really install really easy, the issue is the ballast, that is the issue, if they are too big it is near impossible to hide them, on a sport bike it is cake cause it has plenty of room to stash it, on our bikes it is not so easy!
I know howard had something for this, he will prob chime in sooner or later, he knows his stuff, this is only the 2nd time i have used HID on a bike so i am still pretty new to it, they hook up stupid easy though, stashing the box is the pain!

Default Legality?

Aren't installing HID units in non-HID (reflective) housings illegal? Since all HID (a.k.a xenon/bi-xenon) headlights require optic lens (projector) system, these will be (especially dangerous at night time) illegal and create an unvanted law enforcement attention. Some states already started passing laws against the use of HID bulbs in reflective housings.

I like to see the light output of the new Harley LED headlights..

Just a couple of quick references..

http://orca.st.usm.edu/~jmneal/tiburon/hids.htm#9

http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/HID/x5kit.php

There are lot more discussions on NHTSA sites.. Basically retrofit HID lightning, regardless of the form or shape, is illegal..

Just put one in the SG, Love it.. They see me now.. And I see all teh signs and reflectors in the road.. My kit was $100.00 paid 70 with my discount..

They say the ballast needs air as it does heat up. Mine is on my neck on teh right side outside of the batwing..

Does yours sing when it first fires up?

Stock you can see the running lights are brighter
