My ride has 2 inch Hooker pipes with no muffler or baffles inside.....Cool for a while but now they are annoying me, "TOO LOUD"!!!.......My question is this, can i purchase slip-on mufflers that just slide over my existing pipes......or buy baffles that just get inserted into my exisiting pipes.....will altering the free flowing exhaust affect the jetting needs on my makuni carb......Thanks
Your pipes look like you can just buy slide in baffles but I would try to contact Hooker because different companies seem to have different measurings. You'll have to either, have or drill a small hole in the bottom of your pipes to secure the baffles. Just inserting baffles you "shouldn't" have to re-jet. Here are some examples of slide in baffles.

Slip-on mufflers are just that, They slip on the exhaust pipe, header, and are typically replacing the stock muffler. The baffle's job is to breakup the sound waves in the muffler and reduce the amount of noise exiting the muffler. The prior posts were good info, contact the maufacture of the exhaust pipe to see what baffles they offer.
Sorry to hijack this thread. I have 2007 FXDC with Rhineharts slipons and the sound is loud and pretty hollow. Will baffles give any performance change and will I need to retune/Dyna? I have PC3, SE airfilter and SE 204 cams.
If it's too loud you're too old. Sorry, just had to say it. Anyway, like others have said slip on are pretty much just that, you will probably have to switch back to your stock exhaust. Baffles are used to "tune" the exhaust. Everyone likes to take theirs out, but that's just kind of silly imo. Why lose power just to gain a few decibels? As with any exhaust change re-jetting/tuning is usually the owners discretion. I personally, would just see how it runs. If it feels like it dogs out or pops way more than normal, I'd go ahead and have it checked.
thanks for the info guys.....much appreciated as always!!!!......anyone have a guestamation of how much the QQ thunder baffles will lower the decibel level.....50% maybe ?????????

Slide in baffles definitely wont drop the sound by 50% but I'll bet they'll do the trick for you. The QQ baffles are on the right track except I paid like $40 for a set a couple of years ago and they want $130. You should look at jpcycles.com ; I would also get their free catalog, it's a must have in any Harley owners library. Did I just use Harley and library in the same sentence?!
