I decided to pull my tank badges before, after much personal debate. I blacked out the emblems with some electrical tape first, just to give me an idea of how it would look. I like it MUCH better without them on. Let me tell you though, getting them off was a PAIN IN THE ***.
A word of caution to anyone else considering this. Make sure you have lots of goo gone on hand, a blow dryer and patience. The tape they use on these emblems STICKS. Crazy just how cheap the actual emblems themselves are.
Also, I don't know if it happened during the removal process, or when they were installed (I'm thinking the latter), but the badge left fine, outline scratches. They are very fine, and will most likely come out with some elbow grease and rubbing compund. The Meguiars scratch remover I usually use did dick. Here are some pics.
Awl, man, I used some un-waxed dental floss, and it cuts right through that stickum stuff. Then I used lighter fluid to clean up the residue, along with some surface cleaner.

Tried that, AND I tried fishing line. All it successfully did was break, and bend the emblem itself. Even using the hair dryer on the glue didn't soften it much. Maybe the stuff they used on mine was extra sticky, lol.

Did you do it outside?
I took the badges off of my street bob, and the first side was an absolute bastard. I tried everything and still had tape residue. I took it into the garage to start again the next day, and after a little while went back out and the goo rubbed right off. I tried the emblem on the other side and it popped right off too.
Something about doing it in the sun makes it a lot tougher to get off.
