hoping to find some insight on this issue i had on my last ride. a little back story, i added fat cat exhaust, zippers maxflow and thundermax w/ auto tune a week ago. i had some issues with my laptop and couldn't run the auto idle air control and the weather sucked so i figured i'd take the bike to the dealer and have the 1k service done. when i got it back i got the auto IAC to run without a problem and took it for a run. all went well until about five miles into it when i hit 6th then shifted back to 5th and it started cutting out and surging. i tried running in each gear and it continued like this until i took it to the side of the road and decided to limp home at 30mph afraid to go faster because this might reoccur.
i don't think the thundermax caused this as i have reviewed the maps and all looks well, could they have done something during the service to cause this?
I don't think they did anything during the 1K service as it is mostly fluid changes. Did you pull the plugs to see how they were burning? I ask this because of your recent mods and the tuning that you did. I know you said that you checked the maps but something might be a miss there. Also make sure you check all of the electrical connections as well. This is most likely due to the installation of the tuner and I would look there first.
Link the software to the bike and see if there are any diagnostic codes showing in the TMax Control Center panel. If the plugs look good then check to make sure both the exhaust and intake are tight.
the plugs look alright, but i found a diagnostic code fault at the rear O2 sensor. i started the bike when i checked this and it repeatedly faulted then recovered and faulted again, so i bought some electrical cleaner recommended in the SmartLinkIV manual and will clean both front and rear sensors. tomorrow i will reload base map 525, initialize the sensors and run the IAC Auto then take her for a ride to see if that was the fix.
i think the sensor is dirty because i rode for a few days before i could get my computer to cooperate and run the idle air control auto and it was running a bit rich. could a dirty rear sensor have caused my bike to perform this way or should i also be looking elsewhere for the culprit?
