Default some questions on a streetbob

calling all streetbob owners. i'm doing some research until i figure out what i'm gonna do with my bike situation next year. my current main rider is an 04 suzuki volusia(for those not in the know, fat boy attempt). its a great bike, the right size everywhere but the motor. 805 cc is lacking, and the short gear box has me taching half way to redline at 55 mph. its a real strain if i do any highway driving. i just recently started looking at the streetbobs. i probably cant afford a new one, but i see alot of used ones for sale.

after doin some rsearch, i see the wheelbases on the volusia and street bob are almost identical. i sat on a brand new one at the dealer, the mid controls i dont like but that can always be fixed.

owners of the streetbob, how is the bike?

how is it highway riding?

is it a tall people bike? i'm 6'

i occasionally ride 2 up with the gf. anyone with a streetbob do any 2 up riding? i cant tell how crampt it would be on this bike, all the ones at the dealer had a solo seat.

the fact that i see a lot of streetbobs up for sale used makes me wonder why? i would hate to buy one, ride it for a few thousand miles and find out i really dont like it haha.

i really wanna get all my research before i take the plunge, if i take the plunge. i consider paying as much as a harley cost an investment. my truck didnt cost much more than the used streetbobs i been lookin at haha. i'm really looking for something i can enjoy riding, i like the volusia but the lack of HP is killing me. maybe a streetbob or other dyna is what i'm looking for? lookin for a little info, sorry for the long read. thanks

Love my SB, it's fast, handles great and overall is a blast to drive. But that's just my opinion.
You need to ride one to see how it feels to you and how it compares to what you ride now. Even though I ride solo, I see plenty with dual seat setups. Should be no problem at all going 2 up on the highway.

I love mine. Bought it last year and have put 7,000.00 miles on it so far....I had a sporty before that for 4 years and only had 5,000.00 miles on it when I sold it. So there ya go...it's 180 degrees flip with a twist great ride!

Just picked up a street bob last week. Love it. Like Nevil said, spend some time at the dealership sitting on all the different models and find the one that fits you best. Take advantage of demo days or if a local dealer lets you test drive them.

I had the mid-controls switched for forward controls before I took the bike home.

As far as power goes, all HD's (except sportsters) come with basically the same engine, and it will be plenty of power for 1 or 2-up riding regardless of which model you go with. They can all be tweaked to your liking and comfort. Trick is to find the model that feels the best and that you like the looks of so you don't have to spend a ton of $$ to change everything to get it setup how you want (hah - you'll probably end up spending a ton anyways if you hang out on these forums enough, LOL).

Good luck with your decision. You've definitely come to the right place to find a bunch of good info.

owners of the streetbob, how is the bike? Love the street bob, I have an 06 that was already built to 95 inches when I bought it. It had 9500 miles on it and I paid about $9000.

how is it highway riding? It rides fine on the highway but I consider it to be about a 200 mile round trip bike. It is no where near as comfy as my Street Glide on the highway but it wasn't built to be so. The Street Bob has a solo seat and short ape hangers while the Glide has the touring seat and bars (with a stereo).

i occasionally ride 2 up with the gf. anyone with a streetbob do any 2 up riding? i cant tell how crampt it would be on this bike, all the ones at the dealer had a solo seat. Can't help you on this one, don't ride this bike two up. As for cramped, mine did come with forward controls so it fits me well.

the fact that i see a lot of streetbobs up for sale used makes me wonder why? i would hate to buy one, ride it for a few thousand miles and find out i really dont like it haha. If you are worried about that hit the local dealer up for a test ride. If you show up on yours and act interested I am sure a ride could be arranged even if the used market is your real target.

Answered your questions in the original text in red. Good luck in your search, I don't regret buying the bob at all, I just have two bikes.

Opinions vary, if you like the look of an 07 buy it or an 06. That way you get the updated cam chain tensioners and six speed transmission. Not sure but the 07 may have the 96 inch engine?

I just ordered a bobbed fender and tail light kit like the 2010 models have because I like the short bobbed fender look.

I love it, of all the Dyna's I like the styling of my bob I have seen/ridden them all, but still like the bob best of all (save the 2007 style CVO).

Default Can be very versatile

My '06 Street Bob has been great for 7,000 mile trips solo, 2500 mile trip two-up, solo daily commuter. Can be a sport ride or can be a bagger(sort-of since it won't equal luggage capacity of a full bagger). Detachable windshield, quick release saddle bags, a luggage rack also detachable.
Some things to work on- brakes(I really like my dual front set-up which takes some work- see MotorcycleMetal.com for ideas); better suspension(aftermarket shocks and Racetech cartridge emulators).
Bottom line is that the Dyna is a great handling platform that can be made to be a versatile bike. I love the Street Bob, and you can get an '06 for a very decent price. 6 speed trans, stiffer frame, 1" axles in '06. Just be aware of 2 things that can be permanently fixed for less than $500 total: Inner Primary Bearing and Stator both of which were redesigned in '07. Mentioning them when negotiating price an '06 can work to your advantage. '07's and later have the 96" motor.
good luck. Jay
