Default Bloody security system...

Twice now I have wheeled my '10 Fab Bot from garage, fired it up, ridden to work (5 miles) and only when I want to go home at the end of the day do I realise I don't have the fob with me and so can't start the bike. The fob was at home on the key rack in the hall, close enough to the drive to allow the bike to start that morning.

First time I did this I didn't know the over-ride code you can enter using the indicator switches and so was stranded. What if I had been 150 miles away at a petrol pump in the middle of nowhere?

And then if I park up the bike and, say, pop into a shop anyone can walk up and ride away the bike. I know the answer to that is to lock up the bike but if you have to do that every time then what's the point of keyless ignition?

I mean, how hard would it have been for H-D to have made the security light flash when you go out of range of the fob and then cut off the engine after another mile? Or, better still, provide the ability to turn the bloody keyless ignition off and provide a keyhole to use instead.

What would it have hurt if hd designed the security system so the fob has to remain close to the bike in order for it to keep running. What if you were to fall off with the fob in your pocket and your bike went to work without you? lol..

Here's another thought...

All our bikes leave the factory with the same override security code, its up to your dealer or you to change this. My dealer certainly didn't and I bet most don't. So, if you don't do it then anyone with a tiny bit of knowledge can take your bike at any time if left otherwise unsecured.

Not sure what the point of the security system is. I bought a new bike in 08, SB. RIP June 10. Replaced with 07 Lowrider. This bike has the security system installed. If you move the bike the lights flash....Woo Hoo that will really scare me off. Lets see, remove the fuse cover and pull the main fuse, no lights flashing and I can just wheel the bike away. Put a lock on the rear rotor is more effective in keeping the bike from being stolen and it doesn't cost nearly as much as that security system. If the alarm could send you a text alert or something it would be a little more effective but nothing beats a big old padlock imho.

How hard would it be to store your FOB farther from the bike?

Answer: Easy. I keep my key on my dresser, far from the garage.

However, it still would be safer for your bike if it cut off a mile from home. Insurance companies would love that, as would the victims.

I, for one, don't want my bike to unexpectally die on me when i'm passing a semi on an undivided road just because I forgot my fob.

Just disable it and use the key if you don't like it.

Or use the override combination next time you forget your fob (hint; it's probably 1-1-1-1-1)

I bet you just quoted the reason why HD didn't design it that way.
They don't like law suits.

Good thinking!

F' that noise! I took mine out of my 07 SB last winter, too much hassle. Just swapped put the alarm mod. For standard blinker mod. Then reprogrammed.

never heard one good thing about that security system

now I read this it sounds more like false hope and a way for more people to make money off you

if someone truly wants to steal your bike or car and alarm or security like this isn't going to help as much as people think
