I'm not sure what the problem is. FOB too close to the bike? Store it further away.

Find that you don't have the FOB with you? Punch in the code and start the bike that way.

Worried people will know the default code and steal your bike? Change your code.

The system works great and completely eliminates the issues of accidentally leaving a key in your bike, being stranded if you lose your key/fob, and having something flying around as you're driving. What people need to do is read their owner's manual as soon as they get their new vehicle home.

REAL bikers don't need to read owner's manuals.

You just check the tire pressure, fuel, oil level, start it up and ride! After all, it's just a motorcycle.

Right?

I have 4 HDs all with the security system. On all of them if the fob is not within 3 or 4 feet they will not start. Thats how they are supposed to work. if the motor is running and you move the bike out of the range of the fob it will keep running until you turn it off but wont restart. Only time i had a problem was when the battery in one of the fobs went bad and motor wouldnt start, fortunetly i have all 4 scoots programed with overide code so was able to start it.

Thanks for all the feedback on this issue - even the blindingly bleedin' obvious comments.

It leaves a few issues outstanding though...

You can start my bike at about 20' range through walls. That is too much, it should be like 3'. The two problems with that are that you can leave the key behind easily and, more importantly, it can be started by anyone walking up to the bike if you leave it parked outside a shop or bar for a few minutes. So you should lock your bike even if leaving it for just a few minutes, which kinda makes the keyless security pointless.

There is no warning that you have left the range of the fob. Simply - why not? It would have been easy to make the security light flash, or whatever. This would make the chance of you stranding yourself less likely.

All the bikes come from the factory with the same code and, as far as I know, the dealer doesn't change this or advise new buyers to do so. Many of these bikes can, if otherwise unlocked, be started by anyone. So change your code.

Foxster, do both your fobs have the same range?

Just tried it this morning when I had a bit of time to mess with it.

My usual fob let me start the bike with it in the kitchen drawer where my keys, wallet and change live. I paced it and that's 6 long strides (18'?) and two walls from the drive where I start the bike. It might reach further.

I tried it with the spare fob and the alarm went off with it in the same drawer. I took it out the drawer and placed it on the worktop about 2' nearer the drive and I could start the bike OK.

I'd be curious to know the range other folks get.

By the way, here's an interesting little thing to try... Most cars are unlocked with a remote fob these days. Find the distance at which you are out of range and then walk about another 10' away from the car. Now put the fob in your mouth and try it again. You'll probably find it works again now .

I'm trying to imagine how that would ever be useful.

Perhaps you are a dentist looking to drum up some more business. "Here, bite down on this fob!" (I'm just messin' with the Foxster.)

I must be in the minority, but I just carry the FOB in my pocket, I've never forgotten to put it in my pocket and I've never lost it.

But reading this thread did remind me to put a new battery in the FOB...the original battery was two years old and probably needed replacing.

I asked the distance question down in the TriGlide section and got mixed results. Most were in reasonable range some were at 10 to 12 feet. I guess im lucky with 4 out of 4 systems working at 3 to 4 feet which imo is where thy all should be. I think this is another screw up by the moco in not checking their final product, they are made by delphi so probably come from china.
