I am looking for a jokey shift for my 06 FXDBI. I would prefer to NOT have a foot clutch. I would like the clutch to be part of the shift lever. Any help on who could either do this in the St. Louis area or who sells a pieces and parts type kit would be great.
The august addition of American Iron had a guy who built one where the left grip was the clutch... his shifter was by the left foot though, vice jockey. I am wondering how you would shift a jockey if you got the left hand on a clutch and the right on the throttle? A friend had an old indian chief (1945 I think) that had a shifter next to the tank...now that was cool, but it looked like it would take some getting used to.
I think I have ADD....lol. I have been obsessing over this for the last 4 days and after last night I realized I wouldn't be able to jump railroad tracks or pull wheelies very easy with a jockey shift. SO I don't think I am going to do it.
I guess I will make some handlebars instead...lol.
I've seen a setup like this on home made go carts using motorcycle engines. What you need to do is weld the shifter to a piece of pipe the same size as the handle bar. Then mount a lever on the pipe and you can work both with one hand.It would take some getting used to because you would have to be able to take off with only one hand on the bars.On second just hook up a foot clutch in place of the shifter and call it a day.Or leave your hand clutch in place probably the most logical solution.
