Default New Bob this week

Hi Y'all, I just picked up my new Bob on Thursday. After waiting for the thunder & lightning to pass over I only got soaked on the ride home! managed to squeeze 100 miles in on local trips on Friday. First impressions:

Looks the dog's bol**cks (as we say over here). Goes like s**t off a shiny shovel (again as we say....). Mid mount pegs a bit high for 6 foot two. Gear box clunks like a tractor. Corners like it's on rails. Brakes work! I love it. That much torque I keep losing count of the gear I'm in.

It's my first Harley (just sold Kwak Drifter). The Kwak was so comfortable but there is no comparison on power, handling and braking.

Better start saving for the bells and whistles. I already ordered a heel and toe shifter lever - ONLY 175 bucks (equivalent)!! what a bargain!!!

I should have done it years ago but I didn't have the money! I sold the Kwak, my Triumph 500 twin and my watch to get there. Still got the wife though!

Just about to pry off the tank badges.

All the best.

Thanks Keith, I keep thinking about forwards but I have two concerns. Firstly I imagine it feels slightly more inherently unstable with the weight of your legs/feet higher? and secondly it will throw more weight on your ***! and the Bob seat is not the most well padded around.

Many thanks

W

ww:

I'm happy for you. The fun is just starting my brother!

I too am 6'-2". I left my mid- pegs and bought an engine guard and mounted pegs on them- use them all the time. A lot of folks here probably don't like the engine guard look on the Bob but it doesn't bother me.

On long trips I use the front pegs about 70%, the mids about 20% and the passenger pegs about 10%. I can go all day with those variations and stay comfortable.

Good luck.

In my opinion the Bob needs Drag bars or at the very most a very low rise set.

Specially if you like to corner really agressive. The rear axle nut will lift the rear tire in a really hard corner.

If your 6'2" then I suppose your fairly heavy. I suggest stiffening up the suspension. I can push the front out to easy in a hard corner. Stiffened it up and it is much tighter in the twistie's.

I am actually considering raising the rear and lowering the front of my Bob. should pitch me forward a bit more and help fight fatigue from the Ozark twistie's I like to pound around in.

I love my Bob. Best bike I have ever owned. I can ride all day with no worries. I amjust in the process of fine tuning the machine to fit my riding style and weight.

Hi AB, you're right about the weight, I run in at 340 pounds (without the bike)! I noticed when I took a demonstrator out I could bottom the back shocks on potholes without trying, but the bike I got now seems firmer. I guess they sneaked up the shock settings on the PDI without hurting my feelings.

I must admit I like the look of drag bars on pull-back risers (like a night train but perhaps lower). I'm thinking about it but I didn't want the hassle/expense of recabling everything if I drop the bars straight away.

Your comment about grounding the spindle nuts sounds just a tad too aggressive for me. Sounds more like Ducati territory. But I'm pleased your pleased. I must also say it took me nearly two years to put 2K miles on the Kwak (just a toy) and just as long to feel safe and secure - but this Bob is "all that" from day one. Shame I'm not retired.

All the best

WW

Yah, I suppose I ride a bit more aggressive than many people. It doesn't mean I don't like a long cruise through the mountians though!! Your bob is probably a lot more capable than you give it credit, but as long as your having fun that is all that matters.

I to am a big Fella. 6'3" and 297 pounds of Army Infantry...lol. I actually don't mind the mid controls. I do plan on a set of highway pegs before next fall, though. My little bro and I are gonna ride from St. Louis to San Felipe and then back to where he is going to school in North Idaho. The mids would kick my *** if I used them the whole ride.

I too am not wanting to recable my bike right off the bat. SO I think I am going to make a set of bars that are a bit lower, but not so much as to require new cables.

Congrats on the new bike. I bought a 2006 Superglide(I love the Dynas) a couple of months ago and rode home in a thunderstorm. I think it is a tradition or something with a new harley !! for the guys talking about changing handle bars, the lowrider pullbacks are a perfect fit and you don't have to change the cables. I got the fever bad, I'm already on to my second Harley. I am waiting on a 2007 Bob (Black Cherry) that I ordered, and I already have the Lowrider bars in hand.

'grats on the Bob. I'm also 6'2" and the fwds are more like extended mids. Once you're moving it's nice and stable. The stock seat will not be great for long rides no matter what, but not a problem vs its mid-peg distance. A seat upgrade helps lots.
