On my 2004 Dyna Lo rider I bought a year ago, the fork lock has never worked. I even bought new keys by the VIN of the bike. I have read posts about 06 and newer ones having an area underneath to bend a pin back in place and so on but mine is toally enclosed in the frame head nothing coming out below and nothing on the left side. Wiggling and jiggling the wheel and cylinder and everything else doesn't work, spraying wd 40 in the lock and taking the set screw out the bottom doesn't work.
I can only assume the only way to fix it is taking the shaft out of the tree to remove the whole lock and see what's up. Any experience or ideas other than taking it all apart on an 2004 model which is different from the newer ones apparently?????
Im not trying to seem condescending in the least, but I like to start with the easy fixes first. Are you pushing the key in or leaving it as it is when you are turning it? Also do you know if the fork lock can operate if there are two different key tumblers or are they one key for both? Is the wheel all the way turned left, and jsut a tad to the right when you attempt to lock them?
Yeah I bought the bike used and have no idea if the lock ever was changed so adds further questions I know. I have been turning bars all the way left and while turning the key, trying to wiggle the tire and move it right a bit as I turn the key to no avail. My last resort was going to buy a new lock from the dealer with my current key code. But wanted to know if there was a pin inside bent and not lining up causing it or if the lock itself just rotates to lock the fork meaning it is a wrong key or bad lock.
Nope it really won't turn much so it's probably lock & key concern.
Nobody works on my bike but me. I'm too **** on my own stuff.
I'll figure it out by disassembly and removal of the cylinder assy.
Thanks to everyone for your ideas. I won't use the lock anyway probably but I have to have everything working like it was designed or better or I'm not satisfied. I'm f'dup in the head that way.
