Default Dunlop vs Bridgestone?

After only 5000 my original Dunlop rear tire is worn out. I'm not real heavy on the throttle but occasionally do get on it.

I've been wanting to relocate the rear signals (07 Dyna Low) so this is my best chance to do it. Nearly impossible to fit anything up into the rear fender without removing the tire first.

My question is.......Has anyone had any experiance running Bridgestone's? The model number is G548, but really just wanted general input. The prices for either are about the same so it's not a cost issue.

Thanks in advance!

I run a bridgestone exedra G850-- 180 on the rear of my 07 fxd with a 18/5.5 rim. I get about 5500 miles out of them but they are inexpensive at about 130.00 per tire. They are awesome performers on wet or dry pavement. My understanding is that this tire is considered an oem replacement for the v-rod. ---Don't know if this helps but this is my experiance with the bridgestone.

A friend of mine has an 81 Sturgis with Harley Dunlops, and he is at 15,000 miles and has about 25% left on his tires! I have Metzler 880's on my 01 Wide Glide and I have about 5,000 miles on them and less than 25% left. I am not impressed with anything about them. I ride fairly hard at times, though and a fair amount of 70-75 mph speeds. My friend rides quite conservatively with almost no high speed riding.
Good luck with your choice.

I have been riding on Michelin Commanders for the last two seasons and I really like them. They do not track lines and cracks like Dunlops do. They last longer too. On average, I was getting about 8,000 on the Dunlop rear, and I am getting around 9,500 on the Michelin.

I will add that I have run the metzler 880 in 180 size (good tire too) on the rear also and got about the same mileage --(5700 miles on the 880). Funny but the best miles I got out of a rear tire was the original Dunlop--160 size--got about 7500 miles on that one if I remember correctly. What I like is the performance and price on the bridgestone.

I don't know how you ride or what type of tire you are looking for. I use sport touring tires and have run 2 different Bridgestone tires neither gave great tread life. I have now switched to a Dunlop Roadsmart Sport Touring that still has tread and is at 6482miles, it is a dual compound tire and seems to be working with the Dyna.

Hey Barbarian, I was intending on putting on those Michelins next, and would like to know what bike you have and what kind of riding you do. Speeds, weight you carry and how hard you push the corners (or not). That all affects tire life.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I have a 2001 Electra Glide. My riding style varies. I ride to work every day and usually do not exceed 45 mph. A couple of times a week I will go riding after work and ride roads with 50, 55 mph limits and I always exceed them by 5 mph. I do not ride the e-ways very often because I find them boring, but when I do, I will run at 75 mph, sometimes 80. At least one of the weekend days are for spending the entire day on my motorcycle at speeds of 55 & 60 on curvy, twisty country roads. I like taking the curves hard, but not all the time. I travel to Northern Lower Michigan several times a season and do the Smokie Mountain ride every year. The commanders have served me well. I hope this helps. Oh, I am usually by myself, my OL seems to have lost a lot of interest in riding.

Might look into the Avon Storm 2 Ultra, it is working pretty well for me so far.

Air pressure plays a big part in tire life, especially if you ride 2 up.
I got 11K out of the OE K591 Dunlop and 7500 out of a K591 Dunlop replacement. I got approximately 6200 out of my Pirelli ND and now I am working on a Storm 2 Ultra. I wanted to try and get the same handling as the Pirelli, with a little more mileage and less $$$. I don't have a lot of miles on the Storm 2 yet, but I will say that my ND stuck like glue out of the box, so as of right now the Storm does not perform quite as well and only time will tell on the mileage.

This BS tire looks interesting?

Default Thanks to all!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the input!! Did look at the Avon's as well so that comment was appreciated.

Looks like going back to a newer series Dunlop might be the answer. Waiting for my new signals for front and rear, so still have a couple days to decide. Leaning Dunlop at this point.
