I need some advice on hiring a shipping company and prepping the bike for shipment. I live in Wa. State and want to ship my Dyna to Phoenix for the winter. Does anyone know of a reliable shipper? There are a lot out there on the internet but there are also a lot of warnings that you have to be careful about unscrupulous people. Has anyone used a shipper they would recommend?
Also, there are several ways to prep the bike, for example putting it on a pallet, crating it or just rolling it on a truck or trailer. The more prep, the more expensive...any advice?
if you are concerned you may want to rent a truck yourself, tie it up yourself or get advice from your local HD....and do the trucking down yourself. ONe advice is make sure you cover it while in transit. Make a party out of it....get a couple of buds together and do a road trip.....gee I would even run it down there myself for a fee....my fees would be 3 nights super 8 hotel.....what a ride that would be via....LA.
I used Federal Companies (www.funtransport.com) to ship my bike from Destination HD in Tacoma, WA to Hampton Roads HD in Yorktown, VA back in March ... pd Destination HD $100 to 'crate it' ... and pd Federal $700 (2,824 mi) ....
To AZ would probably be a little less ... covered by Federal insurance for $15,000 ....
Worked well for me ... I was reimbursed more than I paid ... and it fit my schedule ....

(crate was just a shipping pallet with protective stanchions on the corners and a cardboard box over the top of it ....)
