Default Review: Mustang Vintage Solo on 2008 FXDF

The Mustang Vintage Solo seat #76107 is the correct seat to fit all 2006-2011 Dyna models including The Fat Bob.

The quality of this seat is very good. I had a Mustang seat before on a 94 Low Rider so I knew what to expect quality wise. However, fit has been another issue.

Out of the box the seat absolutely did not fit. I tugged, pulled and pushed but it just didn't fit. The tab didn't line up with the seat nut in the rear and was too high. At the front there was a large gap between the seat and the tank.

I documented all this with photographs and e-mailed all this to Mustang Tech Support. Ultimately I was told to "adjust the nose tab on the seat by bending it up an eighth of an inch or more. This should allow the seat to slide farther forward, close the gap at the nose, and better align the rear screw.

You can make this adjustment by hand using a visegrip, pliers, or similar hand tool." Mustang Tech Support was courteous, responsive, and wanted to help.

So I tweaked and checked the fit, tweaked and checked the fit, over and over till I was satisfied that it wasn't going to get any better which was a good bit more than an eighth of an inch.

I wanted the narrow solo rather than the Wide Vintage because I wanted the sleeker look. At 6' 185 lbs the narrow seat works fine but it has a rather specific "bucket" or seating position and seems to put me a bit lower and a bit further back. I had been using a solo seat from a Street Bob.

I've found it to be comfortable with the little riding I have done, I haven't done any extended rides since I've had it on the bike.

Over all I would rate quality high, comfort high, fitment leaves something to be desired.

I will ride with this seat for a while but I'm not sure I'm going to be satisfied long term.

About 3 months ago I put the vintage wide (16.5') solo on my 2010 FXDC. Tab at the rear missed lining up by about an 1/8 of an inch but a bit of coercing got it on. It has since "seated" (no pun intended) and comes on and off easy now.

+1 on comfort and quality. Best accessory investment to date!

I like my wide vintage solo on my Dyna. On my Shovel is a wide vintage 2 up. It's not quite as comfy as the Dyna solo.

I love my vinatge wide because of the rider's backrest option. That being said, yours does not look right with the front of it sticking up so high. I would send it back to Mustang as I think they have pretty good service.

Yeah, I don't think it looks right either. I'll probably contact them about it again.

I had a Vintage Wide on my '08 FXDF. . . . I liked the looks, but it was too soft for me, and didn't offer me enough support. Replaced it with a Corbin Classic Solo, and made someone here a good deal.

Quality seat, I just got so used to that firm, solid support a Corbin gives from about 15,000 miles seated on my Corbin Dual Tour.

I think the Mustangs look really cool on the Fat Bobs though.
