Lightbulb Tips to fit/strap down a dyna in a 5.5 foot truck bed?

I am looking for tips/tricks on securing my Dyna Fat Bob in the back of my F-150 with a 5.5 foot bed. Looks like I will have to angle cross-ways or turn front wheel as I am a few inches short of straight strap down. I am going on a trip and want to take my bike but am concerned just how best to strap down and eliminate any risk of damage. Anyone have any experience carrying their bike in the back of their shortbed truck? Which straps or tie downs are recommended? And turning the front wheel or angled across the bed make equal tension difficult... Do you have the kick stand down and pull/strap down against that?

There are several threads on how to strap down a motorcycle.

It sounds like you've never strapped a bike down before, right?

I would search the forum. Plenty of threads on how to strap a bike down. 5.5' doesn't sound like your FB would fit in there even angled.

Wheelbase for that bike is 63". I believe wheelbase is axle to axle. I would measure the overall length of the bike.

What is the diagonal measurement of the truck bed? 5.5' is the length right? Width is, what, 5'

So, the hypotenuse is ~89" or 7.5'.

I've done the same thing several times. Put the bike in at an angle, turn the wheel to the left, put the kickstand down. Put straps on both sides equally tensioned. No problems.

I NEVER thought I would see the word "hypotenuse" on this forum!

sheet of 3/4" plywood cut the same length as your bed w/tailgate down. the plywood+tailgate should support the bike no problem.

A U-Haul motorcycle trailer is only $16.00 a day, it has a ramp and it's easy to load.

Is it 5'5" with the tail gate up or down? I haul my Bob all over the place in my Ranger with the back wheel resting on the open tail gate.I roll it up into the center of the bed put the kickstand down, strap the bars to the front two tie downs and put a strap across the back tire just to make me feel better.I do need a buddy to hold the front brake while I'm strapping it in.I've used both ratchet straps and cinch straps. Now I have two cinch straps that have one of the hooks removed and a loop on one end in it's place.I use the loops to make a slip knot which I cinch down around the bar and hook the hook to the tie down in the bed then I simply grab the other end and pull it tight. Then I take a ratchet strap and strap it across the tire to the back two tie downs.I haven't lost it yet.In fact I once hauled my Harley and my Suzuki in the bed the same way at the same time that pushed my Ranger slightly past it's recomended capacity but it worked.

It will be no problem to haul your dyna in the back of your pickup with a 5.5 feet bed. I had my dyna in the back of my truck for 1100 miles when I drove to get it. The rear tire will be on the tailgate. Just have bike standing up in the center of the truckbed all the way to the front of the bed and then use ratcheting staps to tie the bike down. All you do is attatch a strap on each handlebar so the bike is secure. Don't ratchet the straps so much that the suspension is bottomed out...just enough so when you shake the bike that is won't go anywhere. Then strap the back down just good enough that if you hit a bump the back end won't move.

It also helps to have a nice ramp.I have a really nice aluminum 2 piece but you don't need anything fancy just something sturdy.A good sized piece of
2x12 will work I've seen some nice home made ramps made out of 2x4 and plywood. The advantage of a good two piece ramp is that it gives you a ramp that's longer than your truck bed but can easily be carried in your truck.
