problem:
yesterday i got ready to ride into town to pick up a part for my
wifes car and within maybe a mile of leaving my house to gas up at the vons down the road my check engine light turned on.
I realized my rpms seemed high whether i pulled in the clutch or let it out so i stopped the bike and shut her off to inspect for binding anywhere and for leaks and the throttle/idle cable.
Everything looked fine! So i started the bike again for a listen and omg it sounded like i was hammering down on the throttle so i shut her down again. So then i pulled the codes thru the speedo and got a po505- low idle speed control
fix:
so i figured it had to do with the throttle body so i did some digging and found the idle adjustment screw had come loose (located at bottom front of throttle body) and had unscrewed everytime i gave it some gas which caused the high idle/high rpms.... Got the bike home screwed the idle adjuster back in ran the bike to listen for the right idle shut her off and put some loctite on the screw....problem solved.
Chris, Glad you got it corrected.
That screw isnt supposed to move on its own. Keep a real close eye on it to see if it starts whacking out again. If need be, put a drop of loctite on the screw threads, just make sure the loctite doesnt run anywhere else before it cures
yeah while all this happened i had left the ignition on and after i cleared the codes my battery died and the bike wouldnt start so i put it on the charger and its all good now but i think im ready for a new battery since this one is stock
lee- i actually called the dealer to speak to the service dept since i was gonna call anyways for a price on the sert download (which was $205) and they basically wont help over the phone. its basically bring your bike in to diagnose it for X amount of dollars or no help at all....im just glad im a natural wrench and do things myself...
