ok... so in about six months i have a ride planned with a girl in tow that will go from brighton, mi to sandusky, oh then onto gettysburg, pa. after that its gonna be a straight shot back. my seat options are the stock seat with matching passenger pillion or the HD low profile 2-up seat (like HELL im gonna use that one). she has never been on a bike for any real amount of time before. im wondering if my one seat option is gonna be comfortable. it hasnt been used as much as id like so i dont think its all that broken in. not to mention she is petite so i highly doubt it is gonna get any softer. is that passenger cushion going to work or should i find something that is softer/cushier?
oh and i have only regular passenger pegs on the back. are there any other options for those? i get complaints about those things all the time because of the strong vibration.
Option two - you'll both be happier in the long haul. Try sitting on the back half of your stock seat and you'll understand why. Its very narrow, not much padding and slopes back - not confindence inspiring for someone that's never ridden before. This is the HD touring seat (not the sundowner) that will be much better for both of you - just keep your stock one and swap when she's not riding,

Mrs. Grind constantly complained about the matching pillion seat and b/r pad I used to have on my Glide, and that was after short (10-15 minutes) rides. I recently put the HD "Touring" seat on my bike, along with the "Smooth Bucket" backrest pad. Now, she'll tolerate at least 4 hours. She doesn't like the pegs, either, even after switching to the fatter 'rider' pegs. I've thought about putting the pass. floorboards on, but they're pricey. Another option to look into would be the recently introduced "Mini" floorboards that use standard mounts.
Same thing with mine - first time she got on she didn't make it two miles and was nearly in tears from the fear of falling off, even after a little practice she said " it hurts" - I asked if she had numb butt but no............."it hurts down there" OH! Well I added the touring seat and backrest and she went from being scared to go over 50 to ripping down the road at 75+ and said everything feels good and not scared of falling off any more. I tried the Kuryakan ISO dually pegs and while they were better than the stock ones they still vibrate quite a bit - then one fell off, fortunately I was solo that day. LOL Never did replace it, instead I got the floor board brackets and some take off boards from a touring bike for $75 so I'm under $300. She hasn't tried them yet but I put a foot back there and while its not totally gone it is much better. I have to modify the RH side bracket though since it hits my Samson 2 into 1 - I think it would be fine with stock or aftermarket duals, if the pipe didn't have an upsweep or if I didn't have longer shocks.
H-D touring seat? awesome! is the padding inside actually soft or is it your regular harley padding?

Not sure what the padding compares to, I only have my stock FXDC to compare to and its much much better then the stock one, have yet to get a sore a$% yet in it. Both HD and Kuryakan make mide boards but in reality they are oversized foot pegs. IMO the both look a little silly but I guess so do the regualr touring boards. The difference being that the touring boards do a better job at damping vibration while the ISO type things are only a little better.

oh! well hopefully my D&D 2-1 doesnt get in the way then. besides... typically when im riding solo or i have a lightweight passenger such as her ill set my suspension to the medium setting. rides like a caddy. not to mention the bike sits a bit lower anyways due to my size/weight.
I think you'll be fine with the D&D, isn't that more of a straight back pipe rather than upswept? Plus unless you have longer than stock shocks (mine are 12.75" it should be fine, also it only interferes with you have the rear wheel in the air and the shocks are at full extension.
