do you guys also use fuel stabilizer in the fuel injector bikes or is that just for carb. bikes live in central pa. will be puttinng my baby away for winter in about a month thanks for the help
Don't use it in my bike but I do use it in my Sea Doo's during the winter months and it works fine. Gas seems ok after sitting for a few months with that stuff in the tank......
GTO Frank, you can use the gas stabilizer all year long. This is good to use. What I use is Sea Foam Tune-up. I use it in my bikes, bass boat, and my lawn mower.
Sea Foam . Its an excelent cleaner and is mostly used to clean out gummed up injectors/ carbs . It works great I've used it for years .
But a word of caution is that its so good of a cleaner that it will clog your fuel filters quicker ( it will clean out your gas tank) .
This has happened to friends that use it in their cars/trucks . Just change your filter more often .
I use stabil or seafoam as a fuel stabilizer for the off season .
A word of caution using fuel stabilizer with ethanol 10% fuel. Almost all of the US is now required to use 10% ethanol gas. Look at the gas pumps the next time you fuel up. So what does this mean? Ethanol is a grain based alcohol product generally made from corn. When mixed with gas at 10% or less ratio it serves the same purpose as the now banned MBTE chemical which used to be added to increase octane. It produced carcinogens in the exhaust which is why it is banned.
Ethanol mix gas (10% mix) is ok, EXCEPT it attracts moisture from the air in the tank and condenses into water and it is a powerful cleaning agent that cleans your gas tank and may send the cleaned up stuff into your carb or FI. It also has a very short shelf life about 90 days. So conventional wisdom suggests you don't keep more fuel in your tank than you expect to use in 30 days or so. Next, clean/replace your fuel filter at least 1 time per year, maybe more. Lastly, fuel stabilizers for the most part are made of ethanol alcohol. It's not a good idea to add more ethanol to your tank.
This has been a major problem for marine gas engines. Until recently, they have recommended NOT to use any stabilizer. I have a boat with a Volvo-penta 8.1 liter i/o engine. I just received a message from them that the only stalilizer they recommend is Sta-Bil, which contains no ethanol additive. It can be purchased at most Boat Supply stores..
This is what I use on the boat and will use it when I store the wide-glide this year. The other option is to drain the gas tank and run the engine until all fuel is used up.
