has anyone noticed any difference on gas with ethanol
Iv been fueling up at our local gas station for awhile and noticed my 07 streetbob kinda started popping a little on decel. It never did this before since i put the power commander in 6 months ago. Anyway i fueled up and noticed the 10% ethanol sticker on the pump in real small letters. Now im wondering if this could be the root of my problem since i didnt have this issue before.
From what I remember there is a winter blend and summer blend of gasoline, don't know the properties of the two. I do know 10% ethanol has an affinity for water and will start a molcular seperation after a couple of weeks. I've contacted the makers of STABIL and they are encouraging the increased use of their product, sales gimmick (?), to assist the gas from this breakdown. If you run thru a tank in a week commuting you shouldn't have this problem.
Nope that was me. I always **** my pants after eating corn nuts.
I notice crappier gas mileage as well with the ethanol we are forced to use here in Virginia. I found some non ethanol gas in North Carolina and got about 4mpg better gas mileage. Seemed to run a little better too but that could just be in my head.
The major problem with ethanol is that it is less volatile than gasoline, produces 2x the amount of ozone as well as all of the combustion by-products as gasoline. In trying to clean up the atmosphere, ethanol actually does more damage. Since it does not combust as cleanly as gasoline, it causes your engine to run less efficient sucking up more gasoline and reducing your fuel efficiency. The use of 10% mix was mandated in many states and cities and I wish we would get rid of it.
suck the fuel out and if you can find some gas without ethanol in it and put it in. run your bike to cycle the crappy fuel out. if not do put some stabil in your tank and run it for a few. either way put stabil inthe tank.
Since I just bought my first H-D in December and there is heavy snow on the ground, I can't make much comment on ethanol in Harleys. My "other bike" is a Ducati Multistrada. When I'm down in the States, the first thing I notice is significantly worse gas mileage. Guessing, I'd say it might be 5-10% worse. The other problem is that the Ducati's tank can't resist the solvent effect of the ethanol. A common problem is that the tank actually swells - to the point of leaking.
My conclusion - Ethanol is poison for bikes. Also, there's no way I'll put this stuff in my car (CTS-V).
In Canada (at least in Alberta), ethanol blend isn't too common. Being in the oil business, I can't help but point out the huge subsidy that goes into its production ... but maybe I'm being too political!
