It wasn't easy at times doing the job, but I don't regret it. I got my degree while working there, took my experienced and moved into community corrections. I'm a parole officer now which I love. It is nice to see people not on death row or doing life without.....and back in society. Helping them get jobs, into treatment and doing good is a real treat compared to what I used to see.
Sorry for the thread hijack......looking forward to the pics.
I was thinking of going a similar route with my motor. Was going to have Star Racing do all the work. They were going to get similar numbers too. But they were going to charge me just over $5K for it and now weighing just getting a 120R motor instead. Is there a benefit to building out an existing motor over just getting the 120?

IMHO....not really. You can sell your complete engine for a small chunk of change (1500-2000 grand) and have less into it.
With either the build or the crate 120R, neither is addressing the crank which can cost 1500 or so. The savings would make the bottom end SOLID in the 120R.
The OP is getting deals....for many, the 120R is a great bolt in option for similar or better numbers.
... cylinders were powder coated a greyish silver very nice looking color and he also got the cylinders show cut by diamond headz he paid almost a grand for all this and I am getting it for free... I was gonna powder the cylinders black but I will lose on the diamond cut thats $600 to waste what do you guys think will the grey cylinders look good on my bike with the black.. I am doing some more chrome I am gonna do the rockers cam cover and tranny side cover in chrome just to break it up a bit and have some contrast...

I say don't waste it ... it'll look okay ... seems since the '09 Street Bob came out with the retro-looking mix and match grey/black motor, the MoCo has been showing that look more and more ... the new Blackline has a similar look

I'd stick with the plan and let Star Racing do it ... those guys do some awesome work ... a lot of S&S parts used ... high quality and good reputation ....

I know they do terrific work and would love to have them do the engine work... it's just there wouldn't be anything left in the motor when they were done (not that I need more), but what about reliability and longevity? With the 120 for the same money it seems like it might be more reliable and have greater longevity as well as having space for more if I ever got froggy...

I am doing this build cause like Vinsil said I am getting a deal I am getting all the parts for about 2K and I am doing the labor with my buddy so its cost effect for me.
As for the 120R its nice but its a drag motor straight up all the TQ is at after 5500 RPM thats not what you want on the street at least not for me I want my TQ coming in early. So I mean you get the 120R but your gonna want to massage the heads a little bit and due a different cam plus other things you may want to do like a a better oil pump, roller rockers, the list still goes on lifters I mean your choice the harley B lifters are great but you may want to go with woods new directional lifters..
My buddy who is helping me do the motor is doing the same build he is gonna do the 120R but read his post he is real knowledgable about that motor and what is needed to make it work for a great street ride.. if you want a straight up drag bike the motor is setup that way cam wise etc, I would still want to change some things... check his build out his name is WhitegoldSG over at touring section..

I'm at a fork in road
Really reliablty is not a issue so dont even think about that, but I am being honest if you think the 120R is gonna be $5600 and thats it.... Your gonna be in for a bit more have you looked at 120R and internals your gonna still need a throttle body I suggest def going with HPI for there 62mm big boy and there injectors aswell.. I mean listen the motor is nice option and I am all for it but me and my buddy have went over this motor back and front and it still needs work to make it where it should be I would def do a diff cam, woods or Tman and I would def send the heads out for a lite massage of the heads nothing crazy but check out Hillside I will post pics of my stg 4 heads there work is straight up LEGIT.......
Here is the cylinder and heads what do you guys think leave em this color with my bike or powder coat them black????
This is the cylinders and heads on my buddies street glide so this is not my motor....
I order chrome rocker boxes upper and lowers and also cam cover and tranny cover to add some more chrome to my bike to see if that will help do you guys think with the added chrome it will look better??

Many dealers are allowing people to order with the discount...$4800 out the door, but Los11 is right, you still need parts to make it whole. But, you have an entire running 103 with cams to sell that is making 90 horses...easily to get 2k or so out of that, put the money towards the 120R and be into the whole thing in the 5k range if you sell off your old parts. The cam is a simple change if you don't want the peakiness of the powerband, but in a light dyna with a single rider and aggressive riding style, you might like it.
If I could do Los11's build for 2k in parts (STEAL) I'd do that in a heartbeat. But, many who are faced with the 5k price tag on a build...should at least run the numbers. On the other forum, there are guys putting out some impressive numbers with stock and modded 120R's........it is the option I would be looking hard at.
