I know that the cosmetics are different but how do the police bikes differ from the dynas? I have been told they have a different cams in the motors for more low end torque but what other differences if any are there. Thanks for any information.
I have the 03 Defender, as far as I can tell the engine is the same TC 88 as all the others. I have not read anything about the cams being different and I have the manuals. I did read an article where the exhaust is different to allow for more HP. I've also heard they have a higher output electrical system to account for the radio, lights, etc. The seat is different, pretty comfortable and it has a basketweave pattern on the top. You also have more fuse locations and the wireing is different, with several different switches in the handle bars (siren (red button), lights (red button), etc) Then there is the switch under the clutch lever that must be pushed in in order to start the bike. If you change out the grips, this becomes an issue. I'd like to see someone try to start my bike now! There is a way to bypass this.
Of course as you probably know they have floorboards, and those bags with the frame bars that they mount to. They come off with three bolts each. Pretty easy to mount and take back off once you relocate the tail lights from those "farm truck" tail lights . Mine is all black with the black crinkle paint on the engine, engine guards, bag rails, etc. The heads seem to be black powder coated. It does have chrome pipes. It's a lot like the Night Train of the softail line.
There seems to be a myth these have some kind of souped up motor. But that's not what I've found officially in the 03 models so far.
